Hey all,

I have a strange vision problem that hasnt been described in previous discussions. I am technically "right eyed" by all the tests that determine eye dominance. However, when I try to aim my handgun using my right eye, I see double. The "Real" image is on the left, the false image is on the right.

I am unable to fire a rifle without closing my left eye. For handgun shooting, I can fire one handed using my right eye only or two handed if I cock my head to the right, (using my non-dominant eye).

I hope that wasnt too confusing. Any thoughts appreciated

if the real image is on the left you are probably left-eyed.

as to actually processing two images simultaneously...humans aren't supposed to be able.

see an opthamologist. that doctor will recommend a neurologist of some sort.

have you ever had a stroke or bell's palsy?

as far as shooting goes, close whichever eye you don't want to use and shoot. i'm left-eyed/righthanded. with handguns with adustable sights that's how i shoot. with fixed sights i shoot right/right or left/left. i have no binocular vision close up, but with practice am now almost ambidextrous (that's right...shoot equally bad with both hands).

good luck.

^ as others have said if the true representation is on the left you are left eye dominant and right handed. You can usually fix this with a two handed grip.

Okay, if you are focused on the target, then your vision is normal. Seeing two sets of sights is the way your eyes work, dude. Line one up and let go. If you're focused on the sights, close one eye.

I'm right hand / left eye dominant as well. The Center Axis Relock system works pretty well for me and allows me to enjoy going to the range, i.e., no more headaches! I have ~17/20 vision, so before shifting to my left eye, shooting for extended periods of time really bugged me.

It sounds like you are left eye dominate, but right handed, as the others have said.

I basically have the same issue, right handed but left eye dominate. If I focus with my right eye I see double, with my left it clears up.

I'm right handed and right eye dominant. When I first started shooting handguns with both eyes open, focusing on the front sight I saw 2 images of the target for the first hour or two. After that, I guess my brain sorted it out and now I only see one blurry target instead of 2 blurry ones (the right slightly less blurry, IIRC). Either that, or I'm still "seeing" double, but my mind doesn't register the false target.

I'm starting to do the same thing shooting my AR carbine at close range (inside 30 yards or so).

Sometimes I do have to squint my left eye just a bit to pick up the front site, depending on the lighting/glare present.
