I'm planning to cut my Marlin 336 .30-30 down to somewhere between 16" - 18" early next year.
Probably 17.5". Been planning this for a long time.
I want to find a reputable gunsmith to do the work. This is a very special rifle for me, and I want it done right. I just moved down to central FL, and am looking. So far, haven't found one. Gander Mountain will do it, but it's a corporate affair, and they'd ship it to another city. I'd rather have an independent with a good record. And I want to talk directly with the smith about the job, get his recommendation about the length, talk about the magazine mods, etc.
I'd prefer to use local -- and will continue to seek one. But if I can't, I'll ship it.
Question: what gunsmith in the SE US will do quality barrel work?
I know there are others more far away, but I'd rather keep it close.
