I'm new to this forum, and I'm sure this topic has already been discussed. If it has, I apologize for the inconvenience.

One of the local indoor ranges I frequent is really pimping the RBCD ammo for self defense, posting charts and pictures for various caliber handguns and claiming immediate immobilization from calibers as small as .32 and up, which I'm not buying into.

Is this stuff all that it's being advertised as? What are the pros and cons of this verses the Cor-bon or HydraShock ammo that I'm accustomed to?

an expert i am not. but here are the self defense ammo i buy and have in my duty weapons. I like Remington golden sabers preferbally the "bonded" flavor. Roumor has it the FBI's Hostage rescue team uses this round, the truth i have no idea. I also like the speer gold dot. I use the heaviest bullet i can get for my given caliber. Right now i am using some of this Cop issue Winchester Ranger.

I stay away from the really exotic stuff, d just stick to a well designed modern hollow point. The best maybe not, wouls it do its job if i need it to, you bet. this forum has a lot of really smart people, so maybe someone else can weight in.

i bought a box of it too

I bought a box of the 9mm RBCD ammo for my glock 17 that i use for home protection. the first time i ever saw it, or heard of it was at a gun shop in Murrells Inlet, SC. I would much prefer to use corbon +p but this ammo works for me because hollow points are illegal in New Jersey.
Try a search on this website. this ammo has been discussed here many times.

Mbdolfin, we're talkin' about the same range. The other indoor range in the area doesn't carry it to my knowledge. That's why I was curious about it. When you come back to MB, let's go shoot. Thanks.

Don't care what type of superpowered depleted uranium slug you are shooting down range it is mostly about shot placement.

I'd second Speer Gold Dots, or Double Tap using Gold Dots. HST, DPX, and the LE Winchester SXT ranger are all good defense ammo.

I've never heard of the ammo you mentioned and it may be good stuff, but if they are really advertising immediate immobilization in calibers oaf anything smaller than a .50, I'd be suspicious.

RBCD Performance Plus, Inc. bullets are designed foremost for safety with exacting performance levels required for:

* Personal Defense

* Home Security

* Law Enforcement

* High Level VIP Protection

* Hunting - Small & Large Game

I love ammo manufacturer web pages, I never would have known this stuff was good for "High Level VIP Protection". :neener:
(That is pretty funny to me)

I personally prefer Hornady XTP for my High Level VIP Protection. :D

All this super duper mankiller ammo market is, is big money making racket.:barf:
A very dependable FMJ or common HP projectile in a well placed, vital area will more than do the job. Will it kill any more dead than a FMJ? How dead is dead?:scrutiny:
If you do perhaps need a second, third shot, how long does that take? Half a second?:confused:

The above is not gospel, just my opinion, mind you.:D

After reading this and then searching for a bit and reading around. I'm still skeptical about this round. Sounds good on paper for sure. Anyone seen their "new for 2007" list?

I like Cor-Bon, but most of the big-name makers are good.

I've never heard of RBCD either, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not good. Cor-Bon and Black Hills were both relatively unknown at one point, but their products were as good then as they are now.

9 mm at over 2300 fps & 600 flbs

Haha. I'm not going to stand next to them when they are shooting....... Thats outragious for any 9mm, .40, .45....

Don't care what type of superpowered depleted uranium slug you are shooting down range it is mostly about shot placement.

Back on subject, I agree with the shot placement. Buy quality ammo and learn to shoot well. I see alot of people trying to compensate ammo brand/big claims for practicing and getting well trained in what you use.

Corbon JHP, Federal JHP, Winchester JSP, DP rounds.... whatever just be sure it shoots well in your gun and you shoot well with your gun too :D

Anyone who has ever seen or treated someone with a sucking chest wound would understand what a .38-.7" hole in someones chest looks like and does for that individuals moral. Its "overwhelming" and really makes them not care too much about anything else thats going on around them except their own life which is hanging in the balance. Just a thought for those "wives tale tellers" out there with the superhuman stories.

If you hit the vitals and practice quick controlled pair reflexive fire shooting with anything other than FMJ rounds, then you the BG is going down.

It would seem as though these geniuses have discovered light things are easier to make really fast. That picture of a .454casull box looks like it says 120gr on the side :barf: (cue Cartman voice) lame

Wasn't it P.T. Barnum who said a sucker is born every minute, and two guys to take advantage of him? I love ad copy that refutes the laws of physics. :cuss::banghead:

That and the sectional density of these extremely light rounds is going to be very poor.

available in 223 Rem (3800 + fps / 1300 + flbs)

What is so special about that? That is a 40 grain varmint load. Sure the gophers will hate it but.... umm I don't think the police or military will be adopting it soon.... But, I guess that depends on how well they can lobby.

and 308 Win. (3600 + fps / 3200 + flbs)

That is a 110 grain load. Wouldn't use it on Elk but White tail deer should be okay.

Hydra Shocks, Golden Sabres, Gold Dots, Black Talon, Ranger SXT ....

They all work just fine, boys and girls, so long as you do your part.

Shot placement.
