Self nomination for dumb a** of the day

Wow, my .22's have trouble making it through old textbooks.

At least it was better than my ND. Repairs from mine included patching drywall, repairing fiberglass and repairing and repainting stucco and said drywall. A .380 seems HUGE when you shoot it through your own walls.

Thanks for sharing that with us, ID. And to everyone else on the forum who has shared ND stories in the past. Really helps to remind us that it can happen to anyone who gets careless even for a moment.

I shot a radio once

I had a hi power clone and had one in the chamber with the safety on ...
I brushed the trigger with my finger and BANG!
fortunately it ended ok,no one hurt. Oh and the radio kept on playing too!
As far as your ammo, what kind of .22 was it? I've had mine stop 1/2 way through the phone book.

I second your nomination. That was an incredibly dumb*** thing to do, and a violation of the Four Rules.

Negligent discharges are NOT inevitable, and saying they are only encourages negligence.

They are entirely preventable by ALWAYS following four simple rules.

I hope that you learned something. I hope we ALL learned something, but that something better NOT be that **** happens.

A .22LR solid bullet at handgun velocities will penitrate about 3 inches of wood. A refridge isnt made from wood, but im not suprised at all that a .22 would penitrate through a refridgerater.

Glad your ok though.

Whenever I field strip my Glock, which requires pulling the trigger, I check the chamber a minimum of 3 times before pulling the trigger. I would do the same. ;)

I guess I'm going to have to disagree with everyone in this thread. I knew that freezer. I worked with that freezer. And, Mr. ID, that was a no good freezer!

It was totally out of control. A real threat to the safety of our communities and our way of life!!

I, for one, am glad that ID put that freezer (and its evil buns) out of commission.

We should all follow this fine example and take up arms against evil appliances and home furnishings of all kinds.

And YOU Thought You Were A Good Shot..!!

It sounds like you missed the vitals. :neener: The freezer's still running. If you had aimed a little better you could be telling you wife right now..

"Ah.. new freezer..?? Ah.. Yea.. It's.. Well it's because I love ya so much. Yup honey.. That's what it is." ;)

*slap*

Don't do it again, dumb***! Pay attention or you're going to end up killing someone.

i thought i was bad, i shot the deck once when i was 12. . . . .man did i hear it for that one. never look through a scope when ur not sure if the barrel is clear of the deck. . . .that black bird WILL get away every time.

as long as everyone's okay, and you've had the bajebuses scared out of you as i did, move on, buy the wife a new freezer as a bribe and call it a day

Good thing there are four safety rules and you didn't break all of them. "Safe direction" has saved more than one life ...

^^ Yes, redundancy is a Good Thing.

And while you may feel the need to tell ID_Shooting what he did was unintelligent, please do so in a civil way. Calling someone a dumb*** isn't appreciated, constructive, or high-roaderly. :)

While i've never had an ND, i did have to shoot a mattress once. That .38 special stopped that mattress with one shot. I thought it was some really good shootin' for a 10 year old. My dad wasn't impressed. It was his mattress.

jamz,

I would not have called him "dumba**" were his thread not titled "Self nomination for dumb a** of the day"

I was just agreeing with him and serving up some of the negative reinforcement he so obviously craved.

:D

If you are going with Shoot, Shovel and Shut Up, then good luck digging the hole! :neener:

You better be careful who you tell about that. Around here freezers are out of season. Anyway, do you even have your apliance tags? :scrutiny:

Seriously though, The safe direction thing is a good rule. Thats why I aim at a concrete wall when clearing guns or dry firing. Unfortunately I succeeded you one day, a while back, as dumb*** of the day and that wall has a small crater in it. :uhoh:

Its drop mag first, then rack slide to eject chambered round. Not the other way around! :banghead:

Be safe, and learn from your (and others) mistakes.
