Sell with or without

I would guess it would depend on what "nice" and "expensive" means.
My deer rifle is nice, and the scope mounted on it is expensive. I looked at this rifle, which is left handed, at gun shows at least seven times. (probably for two years)
The vendor who knew me finally said, why don't you buy the rifle already, you look at it every gun show. I said why don't you come off your price, you lug it around to every gun show, besides I don't want the scope you have mounted on it. He asked what I would pay, less the scope. Needless to say, since I now own that rifle, we had a meeting of minds.
It now is companion to an expensive scope. Another time I bought a rifle from a guy I knew to be the original owner who was in a bind. A 2 year old, Rem 700 topped with a VX2 leupold for $175. All I wanted was the scope. (not what I consider expensive) I offered the rifle to a friend for $100 less the scope. He bought it and I let him take it with the Scope which I would remove later. After shooting it he wanted to keep the scope as well. I told him it would cost me $200 to replace it used, if he wanted to keep it he would have to cough up another $200. He still got a great deal. The moral of the storys is you should probably offer it both with or without the scope.

Used scopes take a big hit. Used scopes mounted on used rifles take a much bigger hit. Rifle/scope combos are a very personal thing, and the buyer usually only really wants one or the other.

I paid $670 for my used 95%+ 700 BDL 8mm mag that came with a Redfield 2-7x scope. What would I have been willing to pay without the scope? $670. How much extra would I have paid if the buyer wanted more due to the scope and would not separate them? $0.

Sell them separately.

Well, the last rifle I bought they wanted $1100 with the scope, I told them I would gladly pay $900 without the scope, and they gladly took the scope off as they could sell it for much more than it was worth to me.

I've sold rifles very quickly with the scope and a little slower w/o, but I also was willing to make a little less money selling as a package for the quicker sale. If you don't need the money right now, try selling them separately.

How much do you like the scope?
There's been a couple of times I've sold some type of firearm with a scope and then kicked myself later wishing I had that scope back to put on another gun.
It also seems to me that you usually take a bigger hit when you sell used optics compared to the price you may receive for a used firearm.
If you like the scope and it may have some future use to you, keep it.

If you are looking to maximize your sale dollars then there is no question. Sell separately.

Also, check out the rings and bases you have. It is possible to get well over $100 in a good set of rings and bases. You may want to sell them separately too. Just depends.

Most people that will purchase a nice rifle have their own nice scope in mind. Most people that will purchase a decent scope already have a nice rifle to mount it on.

I say give them the option. Two prices, one with and one without. The "with" price should reflect a reasonable value for the scope consistent with what you'd accept for a "two for one" sale.

I feel that there is some value to the concept of not having to go through the trouble of two sales. For me that's worth around $20 to $30 bucks. Otherwise I'll do two separate sales.

Without !! SCOPE kinda like selling a car with custom rims that cost 1000.00 and you will only get 300.00 more but it will sell a faster.

I keep older cheap scopes around that have been replaced. These I donate to friends' kids who are starting out. If you've got one of these around, throw it on, if not, buy one and throw it on IF the glass you have is really worth keeping.

This woulda been a nice non confrontational poll.

I generally say without given many folks personal points of view (NPI) regarding optics.
Additionally or in direct support of that, I find it difficult to give up an optical device as they are so personal to me and my shooting experience.
