While I use their 9mm because it's inexpensive, I don't find it very accurate. I do like their .45ACP. Good ammo.
I didn't know PMC was defunct.
I've put over 10,000 rds of S&B 230 gr 45 ACP downrange, and have never had a problem.
I do find the primers on the S&B 9mm ammo to be hard... some of my nines won't reliably set them off, and the FP dimple always looks shallow, both on the guns that fire it and the guns that don't.

I use S&B in almost all my calibers (9mm, .32, and .45) and find it to be a superior and reasonably inexpensive ammo. It does have harder primers, as mentioned, but I've found it to be quite accurate and reliable. I order it almost exclusively from Natchez.
I've used 7mm Mauser with the funny looking bullet- accurate and consistent as were the 8mms and 6.5 Swedish. The 38 158 Jacketed Round nose is fine too and the batch I shot clocked right at 860 fps. A lot of our domestic RNL is a good bit slower.

I've had very good results with S&B .45 ball in my Ruger P-90 and Marlin Camp 45. Strangely, though, my Springfield 1911A1 Loaded HATES it. The last time I had it out I had repeated FTEs, etc. The same gun works great with Wolf, believe it or not.

Not only are the primers harder (not a bad thing IMO) but the primer pockets are a bit on the small side which for reloaders can be a problem.foxmoor said:

Other than that I'm a confirmed S&B guy - it's reliable and accurate (and CZ uses S&B ammo to test their guns - S&B is Czech ammo and I've got 3 CZ's). I've never had a single problem with any of their stuff and have shot 1000's of rounds of their .357 and .38 Spl. I've shot 100's of rounds of their .40 and .45 ACP but now I reload .45 ACP and have found Wolf .40 to be cheaper, just as good and with a steel case don't worry about where the brass went after I shot it.
But for some reason over the last year S&B has gotten harder and harder to find. The shop owners say they order it but S&B is slow to ship. Wonder what's going on?

I dislike S&B.
Not only are the primer pockets too small to run problem free on my 550, but the case rim is too radiused to correctly extract/eject empty cases reliably.
Not to mention the gooped primer pockets.
Also, they're less accurate than my favorite cheap ammo, PMP. PMP has extremely consistant brass, and it has NEVER given me any sort of problems with shooting or reloading it. Also, it happens to be the most accurate factory loaded ammo I have found.

Gave it another shot today. Same load in a couple of pistols. A new Colt XSE which was just a little more fond of it than my Series 80 Gold Cup. Then shot it in this fairly unimpressive looking Springfield Ringer. It was rebuilt by Alex Hamilton at Tenring Precision and shoots like a match pistol. Unfortunately, I do not shoot a 1911 particularly well so, this was from a casual rest over a table at 25 yards.

I like S&B ammo. It's about the same price online as WWB and after checking the S&B website, I found that their .45ACP is just a bit hotter than WWB.
I have had no problems with reloanding my S&B .45ACP, .357mag, and .38 Special brass in my Lee turret press. I do take a pocket swager to the S&B brass as S&B uses a sealer (the red lacquer-like material around the factory primer). I use CCI primers and they slip in with no problems. If I don't do that, the primers seem to be a bit more difficult to insert.
It looks to me like the S&B brass is a bit thicker than domestic ammo like WWB or UMC. Anyone else notice that??

come to think of it, I loaded some S&B 38 cases and they worked just fine. The Large primer .45 was way too tight in the primer pocket though.
The only WW White box I shot was several years ago. It clocked in the mid-700s which is pretty slow but that lot, at least was a lot more accurate in my colts than any other generic ball.

Showed up on the web and I asked the dude at L.M. Burney Distributors. He confirmed PMC going out of business. They have started ordering S&B and the "Freedom" generic from Federal ctg.

Wow. I just picked up two cases of .45 ball yesterday. Bill said that it's dryin' up and his distributor doesn't have any more to send right now...and that PMC is having some internal "problems."
Maybe I'd better go get that third case.
Hopefully, there's a lot of it still in the pipelines.

I hope the PMC rumors aren't true. I like their .45ACP and use their M2 30-06 ammo in my Garand and Springfield.
