It's as overpriced as you might expect, but this one will do that.

Also, the new Mini-14 Target offers accuracy for a lot less money than the Volquartsen.

Remington and Browning make semiauto sporters in .243, but not .223. Remington does make accurate pump rifles in .223, even in walnut, for less money than all of the above.

Curious as to why you are ruling out "military" style weapons.

The AR15 is perfect, that is what I use for all of my varmint hunting needs, including yotes.

+1 on the ar-15. I know it is not what you asked about but you may want to reconsider that...

Shouldn't every American own an AR? :)

I agree with that everyone should own an AR but I can only spend $300 max. Basically, I want something between my .22lr and 7.62x54r. I'm looking for something I can take coyote or beaver at 150yds cleanly. I'm not looking for pelts, just a 1 shot clean kill. I also want something chambered for a round that costs on average $.20/round so I can burn 100+ rounds at the range without breaking the bank.

I am not totally removed from a lever action or bolt, but I want something that I can use without sweating every nick in the stock like a high end bolt action.

with a $300 price cap, you'll get a much better quality bolt gun than scrounging for a bottom-of-the-barrel semi auto.

You'll have far better accuracy with a bolt at that price range, too.

Yeah, I agree, now knowing the price cap.

Yeah, thats what I figured. I've got nearly $3k burning a hole in my pocket but my medical bills are starting to come in.

My Saiga .223 was around $250, and they are excellent rifles. You can get wooden stocks for them, if the black is too tactical. Check out the Saiga forum: http://forum.saiga-12.com/

For a lot more money there is the HK SL6, but an excellent choice is the SKS with the TechSight. With the TechSight they are pretty accurate, and we all know how reliable and durable they are.

OK, let me be more specific. I want the accuracy to take coyotes or beavers out to 150yds and I don't want a Mini14.

I am asking this as a serious question. You can choose to resond to me by PM so this doesn't make a big sidetrack and get this shut down.

Why would anyone want or need to shoot a beaver?

A Saiga is probably best for you if you want to go the semi route, but a bolt action could be just as good for your needs.

beavers are destructive little beasties.

Public enemy #1 if you live near a stream.

When you have 160 acres with a creek running through the middle, you find out just how much water a beaver dam can hold back. The last time I blew up the dam, I didn't tell my neighbor and his tractor was stuck for 4 days.

Looking at this thread, I realized I'm also looking for the one thing I don't have in my inventory, a MOA rifle. The .22 works for short distances. The MN hits consistently 6" groups at 100 yds. Yet I want to keyhole at that distance or further with ammo that is cheap (.223, 7.62x39) with a rifle I don't have to baby.

I don't want optics since my ranges in the woods can be between 20yds and 150yds so open or peep sight (preferred) is desirable yet most bolt guns these days are open sightless.
