Reading obama's stand on gun control it states he wants to ban the sale and transfer of semi automatics. Would owners of them be grandfathered and allowed to keep them indefinately?
 
People keep asking about what form the next ban will take, and what it will entail. The bottom line, is that we have absolutely no way of knowing.

We can speculate all we want, but until it's drafted and goes through all the checkpoints and votes and whatnot that bills do on their way to being signed into law, we can't even begin to guess at what may or may not be written in.
 
It won't be Obama. Every year various gun bills are sponsored by assorted slimeballs in Congress. For the past eight years, the threat of a veto kept a supermajority from cosponsoring them. That veto threat is now gone. Bend over, here it comes. And don't expect no grandfathering, snowflake.
 
Bottom line is no one knows what is going to happen. A Semi- Auto ban is something that has been kicked around in Illinois for years. I think Illinois is only second to California in its gun restrictions
 
Gun banning has moved to the states, where it belongs. Some states will go for it, others wont. DOn't expect to see any Federal action on this.
 
Congressfolks in the House of Reps are up for re-election in two years. They're fully aware of what's going on in the gunstores, where people are voting with their billfolds. They're also aware of the increase in CHL states.

But it doesn't hurt to write a polite snail-mail letter and point out these realities.

Odds are that while the Usual Suspects will push their usual idiocy, a ban is unlikely to pass the House.

And there is the possibility of a filibuster in the Senate.

+1. I'm getting a little tired of the questions about the details of a ban that hasn't even been drafted yet, much less passed. Obviously we don't know the details of a ban that doesn't exist. Anyone claiming to know the details wants to sell you something.
 
If they ban semi auto's do you think it would be all or would we just go back to 10 round mags?
Would it only be assult rifles?
Would or could our carry rights be in jeprody?
Would we be allowed to carry a revolver?

Why so many people want this kind of change? IT SUCKS

Didnt GWB say numerous times that he supported extending the assault weapons ban, and that he would sign it if Congress put a new bill forward?
 
First of all, as gun owners, we have an obligation to stand up for our rights. Think about it, we outnumber any minority group in the country and we should stand up for our civil rights the same way that minority groups do. I for one will not register any firearms I own and will not be turning in any of firearms to the government. If every gun owner or even 3/4 of gun owners took the same stand, there is not much the government could do given there 80 million of us. There's not enough jail cells and the economy would collapse if that many workers were removed from the work force. So that is the attitude we need to take when the government tries to deprive us of our civil rights, no compromise, no way, no how.

Asking about a "grandfather" clause in a unwritten piece of legislation is ridiculous. Any future anti-gun law will likely not look anything like the AWB of 1994 as it cost the Democratic party seats in Congress and expired with little fanfare. I imagine if Congress passes any new anti-gun legislation it will be like nothing we have seen before.

Gun owners really owe George Bush a lot for what he has done for us. He even gave us a parting executive order allowing concealed carry in national parks. It is doubtful Obama will be anywhere near as pro-2nd amendement. We need to join the NRA and really pound home to our Congressmen and Senators that we will not stand for any new anti-gun laws.
 
If we can't stand up for ourselves for freedom of choice in lighting my house with a regular light bulbs, how can we expect to stand against an AWB.
 
I agree with Art here, write to those who will lose their jobs if they vote for such things.

Get as many people as possible on this and start writing letters.

Write to them on pink paper.. I.e. pink slip reminder...
 
Since Obama made tons of campaign promises that he is not going to keep, why do you think he would keep the one campaign promise that he deleted from his website AND the one campaign promise that would jeopardize his second term the most?

I really think that guns are the last thing on Obama's mind. Wait until we have another major shooting or something. Then we'll see some reaction from DC.
 
It's true that gun control might be the last thing on Obama's mind, however with the majority in the Senate/House being Democrat, they might be more apt to draft an AWB or similar legislature knowing that Obama would most likely be more open to it compared to GWB.

Of course, I'm not going to say this will or won't happen, just saying it could. None of us can predict the future on matters like this
 
After spending 15 minutes of reading on here you would think that the USA changed to Nazi Germany overnight. Lets see here, no semi auto, no ammo for rifles that will shoot though a vest, no assault weapons, ammo tax, ammo barcoding, 300$ box of 550 .22 lr ammo, jailing of people that don't turn in all their firearms, no pistols, etc. Get real. Its still America and nothing I have mentioned has come true yet. I am not saying bans wont come true, but if you act like they have you are already giving up.

I am not looking forward to the day when the tin foil hat people start saying "I told you so" and all sorts of nonsense. Where were you when you could have been voicing your opinion to politicians in washington? Sitting in your chair with your tin foil hat on, preaching that your rights are going to be taken away. The reality is you already gave up your rights, and you must not care because if you did you would be doing more now to prevent what you fear is going to happen.

True, but they will be saying that no matter what the outcome is. On a long enough timeline, pesimists are always right. It doesn't mean that we should be joining them and sporting tinfoil headgear ourselves.

SKSs with a deadline. When not everyone complied after the dead-
line, they reopened and extended the registration. It seems they
did not keep their word, and owners could turn them into the police
or send them out of state. Recall a LEO from the Fresno area, I believe
was even charged.
