I found a semi-bubba'd Remington 1903A3 serial #383XXXX that I can pick up for $200-$250. My plan would be to bring it back to be able to shoot in the Springfield match at Perry.

The stock has been cut down, but the barrel is intact and there's been no drill & tap for scope or bolt bending that I can tell. It will need a new front site -- the "ears" have been removed -- and a stock with hardware off of e-Bay to bring it back.

What do you think -- go or no-go?

The M1903A3 came with a removable front sight cover. It snapped on over the front sight base to protect the blade sight. They can be picked up from surplus parts dealers if you are interested. The only problem is that they tend to scar the Parkerized finish on the sides of the base if they are removed very often. I never use the cover when shooting because the cover obstructs the target.

Send me a PM, I've got stuff left over from my last Springfield restoration.

Including several 1903A3 bits. ;)

If you get it let me know, I bought one in the same shape a couple if years ago and restored it. I still have some barrel bands, a nose cap, screws, and a damn near new stock and handguard in my toy room.

Well, I bought it. $249 minus the $75 off coupon at Galyan's for spending $300 or more. It was a trade-in from a Galyan's staff member who answered all my questions. BTW -- If you have a Galyan's in your town, sign up for their Preferred Customer card -- the coupons are an excellent excuse to get a gun.:D

It's a very nice, light hunting setup the way it is, but I can't wait to get it back to "as issued" condition. Thanks all for the advice and thanks Gewehr98 and Roadkill for the generous parts help. I'll be taking you up on it.

Pics to hopefully follow.
