Quotes used heavily in the title for good reason...
My dad's been wanting a 1903A3 for the longest time... IIRC, about 40 years. He's never been much of a shooter, but ever since his ROTC days back in the early 1960s, he's loved the design.
Anyhoo, I recently started working part-time at a milsurp store here in the city, and I found what looked to be like a sporterized Mauser. Of course, after five seconds of actually looking at it, I was delighted to find that it was a 1903A3. As soon as I could, I told Dad about it, and he decided to go ahead and jump on it. I pitched in a few bucks too, since I wanna shoot it some myself.
Today, I picked it up, and brought it home for him to see. Needless to say, he couldn't stop grinning for a good ten minutes (during which he remimbursed me). I told him we'd find a good USGI stock for it, and "get it back to looking normal."
So, I jumped online and decided to see what I could find out. (Nomex suit on) It's a National Ordnance, in near-new condition. From what I found out, I (we/he) got a decent deal on it. $240 out the door, to be exact.
I don't expect this to be a tack driver, collectible, or shot a lot, so I'm fine with all that, but I'm just glad that A) he finally has his dream rifle, and B) I have something I can try to use in DCM competition.
So, where do I find a true 1903 stock (with upper handguard)?
