Third, the treaty includes only a weak non-binding reference to the lawful ownership and use of, and trade in firearms, and recognizes none of these activities, much less individual self-defense, as fundamental individual rights. It encourages governments to collect the identities of individual end users of imported firearms at the national level, which would constitute the core of a national gun registry, and it creates a national “responsibility” to “prevent . . . [the] diversion” of firearms, which could be used to justify the imposition of controls within the U.S. that would pose a threat to the Second Amendment and infringe on the rights protected therein.

During the past week, the House and Senate released bipartisan letters informing President Obama the "U.S. will not be bound by [the] U.N. Arms Trade Treaty" (ATT).

The treaty was signed by Secretary of State John Kerry on September 25.

The letter from the House was announced in a press release from Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) on October 15.

Backed by 180 members of the House, the letter says:

Today the Peoples' House takes a stand for national sovereignty where the White House failed to do so. The ATT is a clear threat to the Constitutional rights to all Americans and should have never been signed. This letter makes absolutely clear to President Obama and his Cabinet that the United States Congress will not support any implementing legislation to give this dangerous treaty the legs it needs to take effect.

The letter is rather long but if interested please see the links provided.

“Today the People’s House takes a stand for national sovereignty where the White House failed to do so. The ATT is a clear threat to the Constitutional rights of all Americans and should never have been signed. This letter makes it absolutely clear to President Obama and his cabinet that the United States Congress will not support any implementing legislation to give this dangerous treaty the legs it needs to take effect. We will also oppose any efforts by this administration or future ones to implement or enforce this treaty through executive action. The liberty of the American people and the independence of the United States are far too sacred to ever be sacrificed at the altar of a dysfunctional global institution like the United Nations. For the sake of our freedom at home and our strength abroad, this fight must continue.”

What was surprising to me the article says only 181 Congress critters signed the letter?

The Blaze

Several days ago, the Blaze reported that some senior Military officers and NCO's were asked if they would have a problem firing on U.S. Citizens, in the United States. If the military officer/NCO replied yes there were immediate repercussions.

I wonder if this had anything to do with that????

The Blaze is hardly a reliable source of information.

Yeah, not like those above reproach news outlets like NBC (of the exploding "with a little help" GM pickup truck fuel tank report fame) and CBS (of the Dan Rather forged documents report on George Bush fame).

What the military leadership thinks doesn't matter. They will do what they are told or get folded into civilian life. Take power, change the laws then take control. Keep the military busy offshore and have the alphabet soup of federal agencies worry about controlling the common folk. All it takes is the right President and a majority in the House and Senate. Good luck America!

Every other week there is a story somewhere about top military leaders being asked if they would be willing to act against the American populace. Sometimes, it's rank and file marines, sometimes it's army, more often it's top ranking officers, whatever. That story goes around, and is intended to indicate that they are preparing for war against the American people.

That is bogus. What should concern us is the fact that the military clearly has no problems acting against Americans, as seen in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but as for when the next time will be, it won't be some Alex Jones inspired round up of people and guns, it will be during some time of crisis, whether weather related of terrorist related (think Boston Bombings and the aftermath).

Yep. Never let a good crisis go to waste. This is how those people think.

I'm pulling a bs card here, so you'll need to site a story that was not factual. Just one, so it shouldn't be to hard for you, right?

I agree, but the bigger threat to me is down the line. The treaty stays available for passing indefinately.
