Hi!

This is my first post in this corner of THR; mods, if this post is in any way inappropriate, please let me know.

I plan to assemble on a recurring basis ("as circumstances warrant," whether based on the passage of time or the accumulation of sufficient material) a list of "good uses of weapons in self-defense," as documented in online-accessible newspapers and other news sources.

That is, I am not interested in events simply because they happened and are true -- must be documented and linkable. A good example is the story which I spotted here on THR earlier today: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/feb/20/sex-offender-fatally-shot/

When I have a good handful of them, I will wrap them in a thin narrative (just enough for connective tissue) and post it somewhere on THR. What I'd like is something easy to point to when someone scoffs at the idea that private citizens with guns can actually use them to save their own skin (and those of others), rather than "just put themselves in more danger."

I know it's not unique (plenty of books have lists of such incidents), but I'd like to gather an ongoing list, and cherrypick from it.

If you'd like to help, and spot a linkable story about such a thing (any time a legally owned / carried* gun is *used* -- whether aimed, or fired -- to prevent a crime or stop one in progress), please send me a link to the story along with either a summary or the text of the article as available at that link, let me know how you found it, and how you'd like to be credited if this compilation process is actually doable :) (I can't promise to use all contributions, and I may preserve little more than the links.)

My email address is timothylord [at] gmail [daht] com

I hope this turns into an interesting project ;)

* Or even if the carry / ownership of the gun is NOT technically legal, if the use of the gun prevents greater mischief.

Huh -- looks like you're right. I think that site might have come copyright liability issues (because there is so much ripped, unattributed text), but that looks at least 70pct like what I was thinking of, therefore I will at least put this on hold. Thanks for pointing that out!
