As Wildalaska says, gotta be Fed-Ex or UPS by law and overnight or next day air by policey.
Call the manufacturer first though, some will send you a shipping label or let you use their company account number for shipping warranty repairs so you don't have to eat the $30 or so it will cost. That is one thing I really like about S/W.
You should double check this, but as far as I know, FedEx will allow shipping of firearms as long as either the shipper or receiver is an FFL. If your sending this to the factory for repair, you should have no problems there. UPS I believe requires shipper to have an FFL.
How about taking it back to your dealer and let them ship it? I did this with a Taurus I owned and it didnt cost me a cent. They also wrapped it up, so I didnt even have to deal with that.
I went to "The UPS Store" in Murfreesboro, TN today to ship a revolver back to Ruger. I got a resounding NO that they would not ship it. The owner adised they were not part of UPS. I took it to the main UPS Terminal and shipped overnight.
I shipped a snub to Colt about 3/4 months ago. I used FedEx with no problem. I did stop by the office the day before I sent it.
The clerk said there would be no problem. Just to be safe, I made sure that she would be working when I arrived. Had to use "overnight" but it got there safely,

I've used FedEx before. I was pleasantly surprised when I declared it as "a handgun going to the factory" and the lady behind the counter didn't even bat an eye.
