    I"ve got a beautiful S&W revolver Model 60: Serial number: 627XX

The trigger and action have been worked on and it's one heckuva gun, especially for CCW.

I left wheel guns behind many years ago in fave of semi-autos, .45 ACP's and 9mm's.

However, this J-frame is gorgeous, and a great shooter.

Does anyone know the year it was manufactured based on the serial number?

    Thanks in advance.

There's just the serial number and NO R in front or anywhere.

    There is:

    F1

    underneath the serial number.

That's all that I can see.

The same number 627XX that's on the yoke is the same number on the butt.

    There's also the F1, an S, and an F18.

    That's it on the gun.

    I appreciate your looking!

Boy, you're not the only one, and here, some 30 years later I've bought three wheelguns in the past month!! Must be something about getting old and returning to the past!

The model 60 was introduced in 1965 and serial numbered in the same range as the Chief Special (model 36) until the "R" series of numbers was started in 1969. If your revolver doesn't have a "R" prefix then is was made between '65 through 69.

    1971 Model 60

I bought my model 60 as an off duty weapon I think 1971 and it was R98XXX. They are an excellent and accurate weapon and I have shot DX on a police range with mine.

    I have a Model 60, 1969 vintage.

All you have to do is call Smith&Wesson customer service, give them your serial number and they'll have your year of manufacture in seconds.

Go to their website and click on "contact us" and it will show their toll free number.
