I have an old 1100 with a 21" rifle sighted rem-choke barrel, and am getting ready to finish it off. I've had trouble finishing projects in the past cause I always start a new one before the last one is done :uhoh:, but this looks in reach now. I've got a limbsaver pad on it, and the stock is cut down a little so the length of pull is right.

Oh, and Awerbuck Shotgun 1 is on the list when he comes back to town next summer.

It patters a little more losely than I'd like (30 feet is the longest shot in my apartment, and the pattern is about 7" round), so this choke is in the list:

Trulock Precision Hunter Extended Skeet

I'd like more than 4+1, so:

Nordic Components +4 mag tube
Nordic Components mag tube clamp with rail

And then a TLR-1 with new battery plate and remote switch

Buttstock sling attachement
1.25" 2 point sling

I'll also be getting a 1/4" long threaded sling swivel stud, with the appropriate swivel for the clamp.
 
A 7" pattern at 10 yards doesn't sound very "loose" to me. What choke do you have in the gun now? I'm not sure that a Skeet choke would be any tighter.

Besides, a flush choke would accomplish the same thing at about 1/2 the price, but it might not have the "cool" factor you're looking for.
 
I have an IC. Skeet 2 is one step above that. I want the shotgun to have a tighter pattern so that I can make more precise shots with it if need be. The reason for the extended choke is because it seems like the mag extension will be a little past the barrel and an extended choke would bring it about flush.

No, I don't pattern it in it, I pattern it for it at the local range.
 
Although I like the Remington factory extension the Nordic one is the way to go if you don't go for a Surefire forend.Be sure to use a click cap or rocker paddle switch and not a coiled wire deal. Your sling plate single point and sidesaddle are the bomb too. Your stock is right.You might consider AO Tritium inserts for the factory rifle sights.:cool:

If you are going to go tighter than IC, I suggest you go to at least a Modified choke. Skeet 2 is what some choke companies call Light Mod and it is only marginally tighter than an IC. It 10 yards, you might not see much, if any, difference.

For the rear sling swivel I was thinking about mounting a regular screw in one to the top left side of the stock, as it looks like that attachment I originally posted will come to where my cheek is. The LOP is 13", as a note.
 
hi VA,,,this is my 1100 with a factory slug barrel and a 4 shot choate mag extention,,, as you can see it come to the end of the barrel

if you measure down the barrel to the bolt face it may very well be 22" like mine

my 870 measured to the bolt face to the end of the barrel is 20" and a 3 shot extention comes to the end of the barrel on it

Just wondering. You've mentioned a variety of accessories and modifications, but what have you done to insure the reliable performance of this old shotgun?

Sights, chokes, and straps and things like that are nice, but they don't do much good if the gun jams on you due to worn parts or neglected maintenance.

This is a good, and important comment. I've cleaned out the trigger, and the gas system is in very good shape, with a pristine O-ring. It has never failed in the hundreds of rounds I've shot out of it, no matter if it's slugs, buckshot, or birdshot. If there's anything to look for beyond those main points, please let me know so I don't miss anything.

The light you picked works well with it's rocker switch! If you mount it as rearward as it goes you can operate it without the superflous battery cover and glue on wired thingamabob- KISS.

Thanks for the suggestions, Gordon. I'll think about them. I have until sometime next week until the mag tube comes back in.

Standard Viton type
I got the 75 durometer, but you can get the 90 durometer if you want, as long as you aren't going to take it at under 5 F.

As for why to by from Erik, he's a very good shooter, and uses those in his gun.

In addition to a new O-ring, I would replace the recoil spring in the buttstock and the magazine spring. Both of these parts are critical for reliable operation.

Also, use a pipe cleaner or paper clip (straightened) and some solvent to make sure the gas ports in the bottom of the barrel are fully open.

Also remove the bolt assembly and complete trigger assembly and dunk them in some good solvent like kerosene or mineral spirits. Then after a good sloshing around, remove and allow to dry. Then lubricate lightly with Breakfree CLP or RemOil and reinstall in receiver.

BTW, when replacing the recoil spring and magazine spring, be sure they are lightly lubricated too and that the tube they run in is clean and lightly lubricated. I also like to put a light lubrication on the outside of the magazine tube where the action sleeve and piston ring run.

Lastly, be sure to try the ammo you plan to use for serious purposes in your gun before staking your life on it.

I had been using an 870 and now have swapped for my 1100.
I can shoot the 1100 faster and the recoil is the same as my 870 tactical that was equiped with the knoxx recoil reducing stock.
I prefer the "traditional" stock on my 1100 to the knoxx that is on my 870.
For me its faster handeling.
 
Thanks shoen1200, I found that out as well. Although my 870 wouldn't eject cheap birdshot shells and my 1100 has digested everything I've thrown at her. Just another reason that I went with this platform.

I actually added that carrier assembly earlier because while the DMW easyloader is the thing to have for 3 gun, it can get caught on clothing when switching to the pistol, or get caught on other things. Definitely a good addition on a home defense 1100.
 
I made a few adjustments to my order after some of the suggestions here and from my friends at home. Everything is on its way and hopefully will be here by the end of the week. I'll post pics in this thread when I've got it completed.
 
Well, I got the mag extension and clamp today. I was hoping that the light would be positioned so that it could light up the front bead, but that would require the clamp to be right up against the nut. Oh well, it makes it a nice black profile, still very fast. I used 222 (purple) loctite on the screws so it won't shake loose but I won't have much trouble getting it apart.

Here it is so far. You can see the Limbsaver pad, swivel stud in the stock (the clamp stud is coming tomorrow or friday), competition carrier, and mag extension and clamp in this first one.
