Seven killed in workplace shooting in MS

LM doesn't allow firearms in the workplace, not even locked in the trunk of the car. The Fort Worth facility here has guards at the gate who carry shotguns and AR-looking rifles 24/7.

Illusion of security, I suppose. :(

Nothing interesting from management yet...

With all these things happening recently, I'm sure now that the sunset of the Assault Weapon Ban isn't going to happen. I've been holding out on getting an AR-15, because I was hoping to get a "post-post-ban" one but I might as well stop waiting and just get what I can while I still can.

No matter what the semiautomatic rifle he used was and despite the fact that this psychopath did the murdering himself, the media will continue to point to things like this to get the people all worked up about how congress is being so insensitive and seriously thinking about not reauthorizing the "semiautomatic assault weapon ban".

It's horrible too because I can't imagine being an employee there and knowing that I have to hide under a table somewhere because I've been made defenseless by gun bans.

That, TheOtherOne, is the very sad thing about carry restrictions .... workplace or anywhere else come to that ..... the BG will always find some way to create his havoc and yet .... everyone else can but look on, dive for cover, and hope the hell they ain't gonna get hit.

Crazy really ..... the solution is available but ...... warped minds cannot and will not see the common sense approach.... paranoia wins ... again.

The BBC just reported that the murderer's fellow employees had expressed concern over his mental stability and had feared this type of attack.

What a sad day that people fear being fired because they defend themselves more than they fear being dead. Thank you soccermommies and Sarah Brady!:fire:

Re this latest nut case, and his antics, the following comes to mind. An earlier poster made mention of this, re the situation at another LM plant site, Fort Worth, Texas I believe.

This was not a "widget factory", this was/is "a defense facility", with armed security guards" on duty, the proverbial 24/7, if I see or hear that rubbish again, I might become violently ill, so how did our latest nut case manage to carry multiple long guns into the place?

Another aspect of this fiasco is the following, respecting the families or survivors of those killed and or injured. Obviously, someone, or a number of people who should have been awake, had their heads, to use a polite phrase, in the sand. These people, whether LM employees or persons whose services were obtained through some third party outfit, were still LM agents, who operated under LM's supervision and or direction.

Anyone want to bet on how much time might pass before the ambulance chasers descend on the scene?

I agree with everyone else who works there - it's a great place to work otherwise. Benefits and pay are very good.

Alan,

SOME facilities have armed guards such as the building I work in. The smaller plants and buildings do not allow the guards to carry weapons. I do not know about the Meridian plant. Heck, I've driven through the checkpoint and noticed that sometimes the guard forgot to put the mag in his rifle. The security guards are nice, helpful folks, but they are really just there for show. Basically they check for unauthorized personel. The shooter was an employee, so he got through with no hassels. The guards will only stop those who are willing to stop.

Honestly, if I had a truck - I could probably tow an F-16 back to my house before anyone at LM Aero noticed.

I am a little ticked that we found out about it on CNN before management told us.

This site has a handy chart half-way down with all "mass shootings in the United States since 1990" just incase you forgot how evil guns are and why we must ban them all!

Check out Feb 21st 2002, someone was shooting a ".39 caliber revolver"!!!!

But surely, the infamous ''39'' is the ''developed'' version of the old .38 and only fired outa ''assault'' revolvers'' ... which as we know are two steps away from Armageddon.

Reckon someone will finally come out with the ''9.5mm Parakillem'' or the .46 ACP (all combatants popped) super round.

Factual reporting has never been a strong point ... but sensationalism sure as hell is..... ''goood copy'' as the editors can say!

This shooting event, as has been pointed out via inference, might well give the anti gunners some "ammunition". I submit that any number of people can play that game, as with the following.

The TOLL FREE number for CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD is as follows.

1-800-648-3516, as I had noted earlier, in another post. Simply tell the nice ladies who answer the phone which congressional or senate office you wish to speak with, and they will put your call through.

Gun owners can, of course, stand mute, allowing the anti's to speak without rebuttal. Doing so will likely do serious damage to all sorts of things, including civil rights, however if that is the road you choose, so be it.

Speak now, lest the rights lost be yours. Actually, the above phone number should long since have been put to use.
