The SF gun ban law requiring SF residents to hand in their guns has claimed it's first vicitm as a good samaritan is shot by two out of town criminals. San Franciso Supervisors encourage trampling on Bill of Rights and the Constitution by ignoring federal drug and immigration laws so why should anyone obey a law written by them?

SAN FRANCISCO
2 suspects held in fatal shooting in Golden Gate Park
Police say victim accosted men after robbery attempt

.......The 27-year-old victim, identified as Taff Michel, was shot at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday on Kezar Drive south of John F. Kennedy Drive.

....Police identified the suspects as Travis Tackett, 22, and his brother, William Tackett, 24, both from Redmond, Wash. They were arrested on suspicion of murder and were both being held without bail pending formal charges........

.....Police are looking for the woman who was targeted in the robbery as well as a couple in a white SUV who may have witnessed the events.......

Meanwhile....

......San Francisco police are also investigating another homicide that was discovered Tuesday.

In that case, a San Francisco man who police say was slain over the weekend was apparently targeted in a robbery at his home where he grew marijuana for sale........

this can't be true

everyone knows SF is a safe town due to it's strict gun laws:barf:

While violence confrontation crime will certainly increase if the handgun ban is completed, there is not to the best of my knowledge a ban in place yet.

Of course the simple reality that a criminal will ignore the law has not seemed to survive the trip through the fog of foolishness in the city by the bay.

Oh well!

The ban does not go into effect until April 1st.

Now, maybe you can blame it on how it's near impossible to get a CCW in SF. Unless, of course, you're DiFi.

Unless these victims surrendered their guns, or had guns and were refused carry permits, I'd say the claim is a bit of a stretch at this time.

It can't have claimed it's first victim, nothing has changed yet. They haven't even determined punishments, let alone done searches and actively removed guns from the community. There hasn't even been a "turn in" period yet, those always precede bans.

Nothing's changed yet.

Edit: I need to learn to read to the bottom of threads before I post. Already covered.

You are right it's not in place until Jan 1 2006 when SF residents will have until April 1 to turn in their handguns. At least that is the way I read it on my ballot.
Its the same thing though, criminals get a free whack at honest folks...so whats the real reason for the gun ban? The SF supervisors encourage civil disobedience when it comes to federal drug and immigration laws, so why do they think anyone is going to obey their crack pot legislation? Recently SF Supervisor Chris Daily and Ross Mirkarimi attended a rally of the communist party and talked about our need to commit to a revolution now....

Can this be the real reason the 2nd has to go?

THE WORLD CAN'T WAIT RALLY (Part 2), SAN FRANCISCO, NOVEMBER 2, 2005

Half-cocked

I love how some people love to make broad and over-reaching statements when they know absolutely nothing at all about the subject at hand. First off, Taff Michel was anything but a "good samaritan". He was, in truth, a thug at best. The newspaper referred to him as a "good samaritan" because tragedy sells more newspapers. Secondly, Taff never had any trouble gaining access to guns; in fact back when I used to sit next to him in 8th grade English, he used to regularly brag about the guns he had access to, in those moments in which he wasn't jamming sharpened pencils into my arms. Thirdly, Taff wasn't an SF resident, so the law wouldn't have applied to him anyway.

I have to get going, there's a whole regiment of British soldiers demanding shelter in my house.

....Hey, Wait Just a Doggone Minute

Don't these out-of-town criminals know that bringing a G-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-GUN into San Francisco is verbotten? Hey, I thought since Murder has been outlawed and gun ownership has been outlawed, we are all supposed to be safer.......Right???.......Right????

One interesting side effect of gun laws (good and bad) is that the perception of legal changes can cause crime to go up or down independently of whatever the actual result of the laws are.

In Texas, when the new CCW system was announced in '96 there was an identifiable drop in crime *before* it was possible for anybody to have scored the new permits yet. Just the news of the new law combined with a poor knowledge of how it worked among criminals was enough.

On the flipside, when England went completely nutso following the Dunblaine massacre and new gun laws were proposed, self defense laws were already functionally strict enough to deny pretty much all legal self defense with guns. Most of the guns confiscated by the new post-Dunblaine laws covered weapons already required to be stored at registered shooting ranges and such...useless for home defense. Yet crime skyrocketed afterwards; the perception among the criminal class was that a newly disarmed free-for-all had been created and that was all it took.

Those are just examples.

So yes, when San Francisco announced a new round of gun bans, it's very likely certain violent street crime rates (particularly home invasions) might rise somewhat even though the new handgun ban never took effect and has now lost the first major round of court battle. The damned thing is STILL likely to kill more people even so.

KingVice is obviously

some kind of troll, probably a craiglister with an axe to
grind because his poorly thought out law that he championed for
was struck down by the courts.

King, don't take it so poorly! if some right winger tries to
break into your house & convert you to accepting Jesus
you now have the means to fight back.

But heres a hint for you King, you guys back on craigslist
hoped That Kerry would win the last election
and I got on my knee's and prayed for Bush to win:D

Mao said that political power comes from the barrel of a gun, I guess you don't want the people to have political power....fine...stay unarmed...I am glad
my enemies are afraid of guns...when they kick in your front door, be sure to frown.

KingVice, The Taff you knew some 15 years ago when you were in the 8th grade became an adult who displayed real courage trying to protect a defenseless woman. Kids who are bullies grow up and sometimes even become good Samaritans. Since you weren’t' there when the incident happened it sounds like you are trying to settle a grudge you have harbored for quite a long time. Taff grew up, did you?
