In 2005 I purchased my first BHP equipped with the SFS system for the sum of $400.00 from a friend. Within three months more, I had two other, Made in Belguim, HP's stamped FN, with the factory SFS system installed.

I read everything I could about this system, and what Mr. Camp had to say about "it" on his website. Now here is my "oberservations" after five years of useage.

I'll call them 1,2,&3.

#1 I removed the mag safety, installed Novak sights and started IDPA with it after Robar did a "trigger job"(lowered the trigger pull to 5#), stippled the front and rear strap, and refinished in NP3.

Five years later, over 200 "club level" competitions, not one problem was ever encountered in several thousands of rounds of competition or plinking.

#2 I removed the mag safety, installed Novak sights and joined a "friend" of mine(an avid BHP owner, 17 last count) to do a controlled long term experiment.
Every time we got together, we shot his bone stock MKIII against my #2.
We found the "dirtiest" ammo we could find. We only cleaned the bbl, slide, locking lungs and slide rails every 500 rds. We paid special attention not to clean the area that would house the SFS or his factory parts.
On round #3228, my SFS hammer would not "go to the fire position", when the safety was disengaged. Racking the slide, causing the hammer to go to the "full cock" postition, then the hammer would not "drop" to fire. His BHP continued to fire.
Over "white butcher block", we both used eyedroppers to pour nitro power solvent into the areas that had not been cleaned. "BLACK GOO" came ozzosing out of each weapon. After a "blast of canned air" and a little Slip2000 both pistols were fired 1000 rounds without a problem.

Conclusions: The parts in the SFS system require a "little" more cleaning. This is not a big deal. Any 1911 gives off a loud "clack" when the safety is disengaged, the "bone stock" BHP will not. The BHP with the SFS will, for want of a better term, soung like a "boing". If you want to be "silent", hold your thumb behind the hammer after you disengage the safety and "follow" it back to "full cock".

Oh, #3 had a "factory" trigger pull "with" the mag safety at 51/2#. I didn't remove the mag safety from that one, leaving it as my CCW, or IDPA where they insist all factory safeties be installed.

YMMV, however I thought I'd do my best to give you my long term report on the 'system" if anyone is considering buying one, Thank you, Bob.:)

All my friends who scoffed at my purchase of a SFS equipped Hi Power back in '05 are now the ones who want to buy it off me.

Not. Gonna. Happen.:D

I wish I could find a few more of these "solutions in search of a problem".

I guess I will pipe in to the solution in search of a problem.

I see nothing inherently safer in an SFS equipped pistol than a standard SAO one. If you put in on safe it will not fire in either of them. The same with it not firing unless you pull the trigger.

Ill take SAO for the more simpler in function. Sometimes though if you are a LEO and can carry certain weapons, most of the time you cannot carry a traditional SAO because of carrying a cocked hammer around and you can carry an SFS unit.

Hello, Texas Bob and thanks for the informative report on your 5-year observations on the SFS Hi Power. I appreciate your detailed report.

Best to you and yours.

Jim, at the "club level" in 2005, no one checked about the mag safety being operational on a BHP, nor was it mentioned or talked about much until a few years later. At the "club level" I shoot whatever BHP I want. At a "sactioned match", where powere factor, weight, and "the box", are present, I shoot #3.
