Please vote whether or not it would be worthwhile to hold a THR mock trial. I propose that if the poll is positive, we agree on a theoretical RKBA case that is not cut-and-dry and could, on it's face, go either way for the defendant. The charges must be for something that the majority of us who own or carry firearms could possibly find ourselves charged with after a particularly unlucky day. The story would follow this format:

Arrest phase:

1. A description of the incident that got our defendant in trouble.
2. Whether or not the defendant posted bail and went home.

Trial phase:

1. The arraignment,
2. Jury selection,
3. Pre-trial motions,
4. Introductory statements,
5. Presentation of evidence,
6. Testimony of witnesses and cross examinations,
7. Closing statements,
8. Jury deliberation, and
9. Either exoneration or,
10. Sentencing.

In order for this to work, we'd need volunteers to play the principal actors. The volunteers would have to be able to check up on the progress of the thread at least once a day, preferably more. We'd need:

1. The defendant
2. Counsel for the defense
3. The district attorney
4. The judge
5-19. The jury and two alternates
19-? The witnesses

So, possibly as many as twenty THR members would have to check the thread daily as to know when they're needed. Somehow, I don't think this would be a problem.

If the gun association word game can last for so long, how'bout something that will actually be useful when it's complete?

That sounds like fun :) Can I be the bailiff? ;)

Just might be interesting ......

Several questions though, (1) Would the proceedings be Judicial, Administative or what? (2) Federal or State charges? (3) Would mock accused have any actual input into how he would respond from first LEO contact through sentencing?

By the way Devonai, your signature comes from the movie Braveheart, right? I don't have my Latin dictionary handy, could you please translate?

I'll play & have just the personal scenario.

Just must allow the "real life" to play out before I can comment on the legalities. ;)

Willing to afterwards post the details & y'all can hash it all out.

I'll play The Defendant.

Well, in order to work we'd have to find people willing to play the prosecution's side of things. Whether it be the anti-gun/elitist cop, the million mommy jury member, or the politically motivated DA, we'd have to be able to effectively argue the other side of the story, despite how much bullplop we may actually believe it to be.

My sig line is from the anime series Noir, and means Lord God, grant us peace and save us from the enemy.

If I can get a good slanted arguement going, with lots of slanted info, I could play Prosecutor/politically motivated DA. Pursuasive argueing can be my fortay with enough gumption, practice, and a good amount of properly slanted evidence.

I once had a mock trial in the 5th grad where I was half a whisker away from convincing 30 kids that with the evidence provided in a fiction novel, a suspect that was found innocent was infact guilty. I mispoke a single word: "material" instead of "evidence." Almost had it won.

A little backstory: there was a book that took place in the mid-1800's, where a black slave was accused of robbing a smokehouse of all the meats and such. A bit of denim was found on the hinge, and a subsequent hole on the same level of the slave's pants/overalls. I argued that there was more than enough "material" (instead of evidence.:banghead: ) that he was guilty.:scrutiny:

Who will spring for the bio-hazzard shower after I am done?

Tell y'all what.

Used to be a cop & have researched (at least Colorado law to no end) & would be glad enough to play both prosecutor AND defendant.

Wouldn't make no nevermind as we have a totally dyslexic & contary legal system anyway.

Wanna have any takers on that? ;)

Beer for my horses

Well a man come on the 6 o’clock news
Said somebody’s been shot, somebody’s been abused
Somebody blew up a building
Somebody stole a car
Somebody got away
Somebody didn’t get too far yeah
They didn’t get too far

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
We’ve got too much corruption, too much crime in the streets
It’s time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send ’em all to their maker and he’ll settle ’em down
You can bet he’ll set ’em down ’cause

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses
