This is a work in progress and is just one draft. I have about 10 different drafts for different groups of people (anti-gun, pro-gun, semi-gun, certifiably-gonzo-gun-wacko, gimme-gun etc). I have a few that are short and sweet for those who really understand what is going on. My punctuation really needs work as I'm terrible at it, but my point is made. Please tell me your opinions.

I need a name for this poem.. Maybe "Death of a Great Nation"??

If you like this, PLEASE openly post it on other forums you frequent.

First came the ban on automatic assault weapons,
I did not speak up,
Because I didn't need such a weapon.

Then came the ban on “assault” weapons and “assault” ammunition,
Again I remained silent,
For I had no quarrels with anyone;
I felt the Police were there to “Serve and protect”,
The government had a strong military in which I could trust.

Next came the ban on pistols and newly made rifles,
I kept my mouth shut,
As this made no difference because I already owned these.

Finally, martial law was declared because of an act of "terror”;
A new constitution was forged, severely limiting rights of individuals;
Gone was the right to free speech, free press, the right to own property, the right to bear arms,
Gone were States rights and Habeas Corpus, the right to a speedy, just, fair trial
Gone were our beloved Republics, Commonwealths, States and our Democracy.

The time for action through words was gone,
It was time to stand and fight,
But it was too late,
We were helpless because we had no worthy guns with which to fight.

Only then, when the government took actions against The People,
Did I truly understand the reasoning for the Second Amendment;
The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Encroachment upon one (gun or person) is an encroachment upon all!

What is “Homeland Defense”?
It is the enemy of that nation saying: “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” Isoroku Yamamoto WWII - Fleet Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy

Welcome to THR Tankman!

That was very well written, I enjoyed reading it and the sentiment contained within it. Unfortunately, anti "logic" usually states that the government is basically good, and they would never abuse the people like that. They have the "it can't happen here and/or again" syndrome.

I'd suggest sending it to Senators, Representatives, maybe Change.gov (although the worthiness of the last one is up for debate).

Also, as much as I enjoy the second amendment, it kind of breaks the flow of the rest of the work, but I suppose that can't be helped. Beautiful writing on your part.

Thanks for your kind words! I was rushing to get this posted and had to choose between many drafts. The last part kinda butchered the flow, you are very right. I changed it to the way it was worded in another draft.

Had I not felt it important to have this posted ASAP, I would have revised it for months to come. But time is of utmost importance in this issue and I pray it is not too late.

I had the same thought about the "It can't happen here" attitude. It is truly depressing. I'm working on a few others that are similar.

As much as I want to take full credit for this, it is a parody of the poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller about the holocaust..

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social Democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social Democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I was not a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

You have described the vast majority of Americans. Most people have the same train of thought, why else would people be rushing out to buy AR's, AK's and pistol mags that hold more than 10 rounds. The same reason there will be a line 30 people long at Wal-Mart all night right before opening day of deer season, they waited until the last minute and did not plan ahead.

California's gun laws might be setting the tone for Americas gun laws...something to think about.

Well what can we do? Let's come up with some ideas. Go to Anti-gun forums and post this "poem" or thing like it. I wish it was more elegant but for 45 mins of work it's not bad.

I'm signing up on Democratic forums and posting this. I want to see the responses I get.

Should I include the second poem about the Holocaust?

I'd have this printed and hand it out at liberal conventions (like the anti/opposite of gun shows). What would those be? Where do the liberals hang out, besides Metro/homosexual night clubs (J/k :evil:)??

I just posted this on a Keith Olbermann discussion forum. It should solicit some interesting responses.

I liked it. Fax it to Rahm Emanuel before he finishes planning gun owners' Kristallnacht.

Borders Books Stores and Starbucks Coffee shops of course. Try your local PTA, no shortage of liberals there.

I'd like to hope it would do some good, but most of the liberals I come in contact with "just feel so darn bad about our being free and trying to force Democracy on other nations that we owe it to ourselves to be punished."..........................You just can't reach people like that.

If you haven't seen this you'll like it.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but they'll almost certainly just call you a wacko. Also I wouldn't do the holocaust thing... it's really overplayed.. even PETA did it for chickens.

New Jersey on the East Coast and California on the Left Coast have long been models for gun laws for the rest of our nation.I think we see every odd new gun law here first.Micro stamping,just as an example..

I've never read this site before. I don't even remember what article search brought me here, probably something about a Swiss K31. I'd have given credit if I had read it here, but it was original but not surprising that someone else had parodied it before. Oh well, at least we all had the same intention.

Wait we cant forget about Illinois, are they even allowed to own guns there? I know of several places here in Missouri that have signs up that say they will not sell ammo to Illinois residents.

Not bad, but maybe you could change it a little....

"First came the ban on automatic assault weapons,

after all, I have a college degree in chemistry, plenty of fertilizer, and a Rider truck.;)

Yeah, that's the way to convince the liberals that you're right.

Sheesh, what an *ss. One step forward, two back.

Remember, the current AWB in the House was submitted by 4 Republicans...

Well, this turned insulting and ugly in a hurry.

THR is a pretty inclusive place. Hang around long enough and you'll run into plenty of liberal and homosexual gun owners who are just as dedicated to protecting RKBA as anyone.
