I was wondering what the maximum legal limit is for a civilian on shotgun shell capacity in a shotgun? is it 7 shots? 8 shots? are we allowed to have shotguns which can carry more than 8 shots? if someone can tell me i would be appreciative.

There is no federal limit that I know of. Some states or localities may have a limit, but the real limit seems to be practical. That limit seems to be the available mag extensions, which seem to be a 26" barrel with a 9 shot extension giving a 10 shot total. Of course with longer barrels you could have a custom built mag extension-36" barrel goose gun with a 14 shot extension????
I have a Model 97 Winchester that has a 36" barrel(was supposed to shoot "harder"), maybe some day..................

Federal limit on shotguns used on waterfowl is 3 total, 2 in the magazine. My Mossberg is plugged to a two round magazine capacity and my Winchester 1400 is built to only hold two rounds in the mag. But, other than that, no laws. You might have got the impression there was a firearms law due to this, but it's a game management law through the Dept of Interior, not BATF and only affects you if you're hunting migratory birds.

Patrick Flanigan used a Winchester SX-2 to set a new world record by breaking 11 hand thrown clays.

i was reading over some l-nra laws on a website and it stated a new law was recently passed (which hasnt been made public yet) that they were putting a limit on civilian model shotguns for the future to 7 shots. now this doesnt mean if you ALREADY OWN a shotgun which holds a capacity of more, but for future dealers to sell, the guns must have a capacity limit. this is only for the future generation gun customers, not the current.
