Anyone have any experience or feedback on these? Been eyeballin' the ads for about four years now, but have only seen one at a gun shop (mounted) and none for sale on gunbroker or gunsamerica. What do they cost... and what are they worth? Gimmick or great idea?

Let me offer some advice that doesn't really tell you much since I have no personal experience with them.
This is something that I considered to be a gimmick for years. I saw their ads in the magazines and it looked like a cheap gimmick to me.
BUT, over the years I have read and heard a lot of good things about them from people I think I can trust. Two good friends of mine own one and they think they are terrific.
Lastly, they are expensive. If I am not mistaken, the one I was looking at was around $800 ? I would like to have one. I like the idea of buying the one they make for a .22 LR. That is where this sytem would shine in my opinion.

They're actually rather fantastic on a round that fits the BDC correctly. (ie, a 308 or .30-06 on the V2, 300WinMag, etc on the V1.)

Makes longer range semi-precision shooting almost retated easy.

I have one on my .338 Lapua, and it works rather well to 1,000yds.

Only thing I think beats it is a Nightforce, and only then in some applications (ie, past 1k yds, low/no light.)

shepherd scopes

Good scopes, good optics, worth the money. get the varmint model (if it is correct for your caliber) the rings represent 18", which, IMHO, is better than the 36" rings on the others.

I have 2 Shepherds and they are indeed worth the $575 they cost....one is on my ar15 which can also be used on my 308 and 30-06 if need to be...the other is on my Winchester Classic Laredo in 7MM STW and is to be used on STW's and Weatherby Magnum velocities.....the one shot zero is true and if you have to adjust the circles out to 200-600 yards or so, only requires a minor adjustment. They are worth the money and a very good hunting scope, not necessarily for target shooting although they have come out with one for target shooting now...........

Honestly, I wish Nightforce made a dual-reticule scope with custom BDC. But they don't.

And the Shepherd is the closest thing I've found yet.

Things I don't love:
* 40mm bell means smallish exit pupil at full zoom. Problem with all 40mm scopes.
* Reticule can be kinda 'busy'. Thinner lines might be nice.
* MAKE AN ILLUMINATED RETICULE OPTION/STANDARD!!!
* Eye relief could be longer.
* not quite as rugged as my NF. I could probally drive a nail with the NF though, and the Sheperd has yet to fail me on a VERY powerful rifle.
* More BDC and zoom options would be nice, so would more MOA ajustment range!

Things I like:
* Optical quality is on par with Leupold/NF. This is to say, very very good.
* Fastest aquire/hit of any scope I've ever used, at any range. BAR NONE!
* One-shot zero really works.
* Always know if scope is true because of the dual-reticule.

Buy a Leupold......

WildwhymesswithjunkAlaska

They are not junk by any streatch of the imagination. I would rate 'em, on par with Leupold, and second to Nightforce and US Optics (but everything is second to NF / USO :)

A shepherd is a very high quality piece of glass, with some very neat unique features that make for the fastest 'time to on-target hit' I've ever expierenced.
