I just stumbled upon this and wondered if anyone had any experience with them. The product is the Shernic Gun Works SKS bullpup conversion. I have heard some mixed reviews on sks bullpup conversions but these look pretty cool. Can someone get me some good info on them?

Please direct any and all questions about the SKS, SKS accessories, or company building SKS parts to:

http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php

They even have a thread ongoing for nearly two years on this kit here. Please note, there is a LOT of information in that thread. It will take some time to find as it is an incredibly long thread. But all your questions will be answered there. SKS Shernic Bullpup questions that is. If you ask for the meaning of life, it's in another thread.

Here's what you can turn an SKS into with this stock:

Take this with a grain of salt, because I have no experience with this particular conversion, but every bullpup conversion (for any rifle) that I have tried has been an utter failure. They simply aren't designed to be converted which creates issues with the manipulation of controls, and often exhibit reliability, durability, and ergonomic issues as well.

:)

I think Maverick223 pretty well covers it. If you're really interested in getting a bullpup rifle, spend the money and get an actual one like an FS2000 or one of the Steyr AUG clones.

Looking at the video for that product, there are several things demonstrated that would make it a poor choice for anything other than a range toy.

1.) The reciprocating bolt handle means you cannot fire the gun left-handed unless you want a bloody nose.

2.) The flip-up dust cover coupled with the SKS loading method makes for an extremely slow reload, even by bullpup standards.

3.) SKS rifles are not known for having good triggers as it is. I doubt that the trigger linkage required to install this kit makes it any better.

4.) The scope rail is mounted extremely high for no apparent reason, which is going to make it difficult to get a reasonable cheek weld when shooting the gun.

Introducing our new U.S. made SKS BULLPUP STOCK KIT. It is an affordable, effective, defensive stock option, made out of heat stabilized, reinforced polymer with oak and steel barriers and reinforcements.

It uses Oak, justin. your argument is invalid.

There is certainly alot of information to be had on these rifles.

I currently have a 1954 Russian Tula going through the registration process in my state. I busted my backside to buy it and I'm looking forward dissasembly, cleaning, changing the firing pin and shooting it.

Allthough it was re-arsonaled, (black bolt) the numbers do match and it has the original stock. I am told that is rather rare for these. The fact that it servived the re-arsonal and was in such great shape is the reason I bought it. No.2 on the list was a Romainian that was very nice also.

Look ma, no trigger guard.

I just get the feeling that there was a perfectly good SKS under there somewhere.

Look ma, no trigger guard.
The AUG/MSAR doesn't have a traditional one (trigger finger only) either and seems to be fine. Then again, it has a "finger stop" below the trigger to keep your middle finger from sliding up, which doesn't appear to be present on this kit.

:)

yeah I was thinking it should have something to keep your middle finger from sliding up under the trigger, traditional or not.

But it does have something! That thing above has just a slight hump with no ledge life the AUG/MSAR.

That and the AUG/MSAR can be fired left handed without removing your cheek!

That is one of the most awkward looking transition for left handed shootings in the vid that I've seen. Staying on target just isn't happening.
