Last week I read Spats McGee's perspective on the Shield Plus. I was all ready to "pull the trigger" on a new Ruger Max 9 to replace the Sig P365 that I kicked to the curb because I couldn't find any love for the grip... but his review gave me pause and inclined me to put a Shield Plus in my hands. Went to a couple (alright maybe three or four) different gun stores to try the Shield Plus out and to compare it with the Max 9 side by side. After putting the Shield Plus in my hand my fate was pretty well sealed. I really liked the fit and feel of the grip (very important) and the trigger, ohhh this trigger is sublime... I have a Sig P365XL with a flat trigger and I feel the Shield's is by far a lot nicer. Anyway, after deciding that I was going to purchase the Shield Plus I decided I was going to wait until the "NEW" wore off a little and prices stabilized before I bought one. Well damned if they didn't go and offer this for $50 off. I'm not a really patient person to begin with and this was all I needed to take the plunge. So today I took a ride into town and came home with my first S&W ever, a new Shield Plus. They kicked in a box of Aguila 147gr FMJ Flat Point at a sweet price point to sweeten the deal.

Here she is...my new Shield Plus. IMG_20210425_192038970.jpg

This past Saturday I had the opportunity to examine and handle a Shield Plus. Congratulations on your new acquisition. Since I have an older model Shield that I have invested time and finances into I've decided what I have is satisfactory for my usage.

Congratulations! The funny thing is that I'm usually incredibly patient (or maybe cheap) when it comes to buying guns. But with the Shield Plus, I just couldn't wait.

Now if they'll just get extra mags to market....

Oh I get it. This is a time traveling post from the past cause a) nobody got 9mm 147gr ammo & b) they GAVE it to you. Last time I got a box of ammo with a gun purchase was... Oh ah, 1971.

Tell me where this magical gun store is, I'll even pay them for some of that ammo.

Oh I paid for it...just not the going rate. I was surprised to see the 147 gr too. They have no ammo on the shelves..but they provide some magically appearing ammo when you purchase a new gun.

I'm not...once I research a new prospect and compare it to others I'm chomping at the bit to get it. I do my darndest to put it off, waiting for that great deal but end up thinking about it to much and reasoning why I should go out a buy it NOW. I've probably paid more than I should've for a few guns, but I got 'em and was able to enjoy them early....at least that's what I keep telling myself.

I took my new Shield Plus out today and put about 100 rounds thru it. Started with 124 gr FMJ and 115 gr FMJ factory ammo and ended with 115 gr FMJ reloads. Not one hiccup..it shot everything I fed it. An incredibly accurate with a comfortable recoil. I had my Kimber Micro 9 Rapide out too..put about 50 down range with it. Both great little shooters.

I really, really like the Shield..the grips stay put in the hand...the trigger is excellent..it points well. It is going to make an excellent carry gun.

I don't think that I'm an alarmist when I suggest that an added incentive to buy now instead of in the future is the very real, if not likely, political prospect that lots of firearms you can buy today will be illegal to own tomorrow (certainly the fate of high capacity magazines in terms of legal ownership will be a harbinger of what might come next). You don't need to be clairvoyant or own a crystal ball to predict the future-just read the news.

All the more reason to support the NRA and groups like them. As far as what the future holds..no one really knows...I sure as hell don't look to the news of today to bring me credible information on it.

All I know is I'm very happy with my new Shield Plus..I think I made the right decision picking it over the Ruger Max 9. I think it will see a lot of duty as my EDC.

I would say the same about myself.

About a dozen years ago or so, I paid full MSRP for an early edition M&P9c with thumb safety (my preference). Fairly out of character for me.... never regretted it.

I have a Shield 1.0 and like it well enough not to get the 2.0.

The 3" Plus with safety is pretty tempting... but ...if they come out with a 3.5" or 4" Shield Plus with thumb safety, I'll pay full MSRP again if needed.

I know what you mean about the 1.0. It wasn't enough of a change to go to the expense of upgrading, in my book. Heck, I probably wouldn't even sell my 1.0, but for the fact that one of my best friends wants to buy it. Obviously, the Plus was a different story for me.

Oh, like this one?

ETA: Oddly, S&W shows a 4" barrel version at the link, but when I try to configure it, it goes back to one with a 3.1" barrel.

That’ll make a great edc gun .
With all the gun buying mayhem going on I was glad to read about the shop knocking 50 off their asking price. This maaaay be a sign that guns are sitting on the shelves at pandemic panic prices and some sanity may return to the masses.:)

Once you get a few targets under its belt show is how it shoots for you.

Stay safe.
