Has anyone Shipped a Handgun recently. I was just quoted a price of $56 from fed ex to ship from Philadelphia to Taurus in Florida. Is this just how much it cost? or is there better alternatives out there.

Thanks

Check with your dealer. He can mail a pistol as you cannot and the postage will be half or less the Fed-Ups rate. He can send it common carrier for less than you can, although it might be more than postage. So even if he charges you to send it off, you will come out ahead.

Has to be FedEx or UPS. Both, altho more UPS, have had issues in the past w employee theft. Their solution is to demand you use next day - and they then charge accordingly. Best you can do is allow "anytime" next day and not pay for an early am delivery. That's about a going price.

Alternative is to get a friendly FFL to ship it USPS Priority ... with a small charge by the FFL, that'll be cheaper.

Shipping

Depends if u can find an FFL who isn't out to make a car payment on his fees! Have one who used to charge 20.00 for logging in and uspo priority mail for HIM was about another 20.00. If u use fedex or ups expect those sKy high fees as they will ONLY ship overnight if u ship and NOT AN FFL. I do believe their reasoning behind overnight shipping is they dont trust their own drivers not to get sticky fingers!

Most of the FFLs in my area will not ship for a private individual and the ones that do charge around $55.00. The $56.00 quote you got from FedEx seems cheaper than the quotes I've got online from them.

Id like to ship my Taurus in for repair also, But ive only been quoted $45 from the place i bought it. I may ship it myself or say screw it.
If i could find a place to do it for $20 id be all over it.

my FFL guy told me to ship it myself FEDEX ground and just put parts in the contents line if required.

I don't think you have to list contents on FEDEX grnd though. Should only be about $15 for a pistol.

Big question- is this legal? Of course I would get a copy of the receiving FFL first.

definitely ask them to pay for it if it's warranty work. They fully covered my son's 24/7 and he didn't even have to ask for it.
as far as the original question, yeah, that seems pretty steep to me

Thanks everyone I am biting the bullet and sending it in hopes that Taurus will reimburse my shipping.

Last time I sent one to S&W Fedex wouldn't let me ship it Fedex Ground had to regular Fedex overnite and I had to list contents. If you only list it as parts and it does by some chance go missing, your screwed!

And if it goes missing, good luck getting your claim paid...and since it is addressed to a gun company, it won't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's inside......

if it isn't a warranty item, using a local smith is a better alternative
