I've never been a "collector" in any sport.. I like really nice stuff but never believed in it as an "investment" or just to look at...

Recently bought #150 of 400 of the new Colt Ghost Commander.. it's a Talo model..

several folks have said "put it away".. others have said "shoot it or you shouldn't have bought it"... some have even said "you did the right thing buying it.. but i wouldn't shoot it.. it won't shoot that great"..

thoughts?

i'm leaning hard toward taking good care of it but shooting it like the rest of my guns.. maybe carrying it when using OWB.. thoughts?

Personally, I don't understand shooting guns that are in good enough shape to be shot. They were *made* to be used, for cripe's sake! If you want a wall-hanger, buy a replica or something.

IMHO the Talon stuff is all show. True Colt collectors do not give a crap about the Talo stuff. Shoot it.

Rellascout............ please explain... are you saying being 1 of 400 isn't a big deal because it's a Talo?? just trying to understand..

no feeling hurt here.. I bought it for cool factor...

I am not dissing the gun. It is a cool concept but Talo is a distributor who creates "collectible guns". They sell them with the concept that they are 1 of 400. They are selling the illusion of collectibility. They go and buy Colts from the factory and modify them or they pay the Colt custom shop to modify them. They are sold as limited edition Colts. I rarely see them sold at a later date for more than they were bought for NIB. The same is not true of as a WWII Colt.

They do engraving and gold inlays etc... they are selling bling and novelty. They are pretty display case guns for the most part.

Most guys who are hard core Colt collectors want old factory guns. They want something that is rare by its age, condition and availability not something that was made to be collectible.

This is just my opinion based on what I have seen Talos sell for and what I have learned from guys who are hard core Colt collectors. YMMV

thanks for splainin'

no disrespect taken at all... that is what i thought you meant.. thanks for the explanation.. again, i bought it cuz i liked it.. never thought about NOT shooting it until others started suggesting it to me aftet i bought it..:)

I agree with rellascout, "special editions" are special only for the seller.

Ask anybody who says it is too special to shoot, if he will pay you say a 50% profit so you can buy a regular model to shoot.

Have fun with it... Its a cool concept. Shoot the crap out of it. Let it bring you joy as it throws lead down the range. :)

They are tools when you have shot the crap out of it then you can put it in a display box. LOL

I have a few guns 80 to 112 years old and I shoot them all, if I don't shoot it I don't want it. In fact I just bought a Colt US Army .38 Model 1901 and after a few minor repairs it will also be shot.

id have to agree with everyone else... shoot it

im one of those guys that collectable means nothing if you gave me a custom $200,000 chopper id ride it till the wheels fell off
get ahold of a dodge viper from hennessy performance i can garauntee the clutch will be gone by morning
"collectable" gun yea im shooting it till the bore is smooth

i hate safe queens and trailored "show cars" if you own it dont be scared to use it if your scared sell it to someone who isnt

One of my worst habits is not using what I have. As I look back I ask myself Did I really enjoy staring at it for all of those years.
(guns, knives, cars, pool cues)

I am going to jump on the shoot it bandwagon. I don't buy anything I am not willing to use.

Would you buy a cool muscle car and not drive it ???

Shoot it , clean it , ENJOY IT , and if you ever have to sell it --- you still may get what you paid for it.

Agreed! Shoot it.

My Father-in-law was going to give me his Teddy Roosevelt 30-30 which had never been shot. He owed me money for some work I'd done. When I mentioned sighting it in, he decided to buy me a 47" TV instead!

I would advise otherwise. If the key or wedge at the front should fail you will have a slide mounted between your eyes. Notice that in this paricular Browning design the slide is disassembled backwards, not foreward.

thanks everyone..

picked it up off layaway today.. to the range on friday!!!

Look at it this way... Since you decided to shoot it, the unfired ones among the remaining 399 guns will be worth more money. :scrutiny:
