As the title says I'll be shooting my first Police Combat Match Wednesday. The IPA(Illinois Police Association) has these matches four times a year. It's two parts, one a 480 combat match and the other a Bullseye match.

Anyone else here shoot the combat matches? Any advice?

Probably the same as most other action type matches.
Read the rules beforehand so as to be familiar with the procedures.
If there's fixed courses of fire, read those, too.
Practice what you can before going.
Don't scare the range officers.
Relax and have fun.

I think Sam1911's universal advice of "no one will be impressed with how fast, or acurate you are, BUT THEY WILL BE WITH HOW SAFE YOU ARE" is pretty good.

Let us know how it goes. One of the best shooters I know used to shoot PC.

It went pretty good!! I was shooting my Sig 1911 with stock sights, etc. I shot a 427.

The Illinois Police Association has three more this season and I'm looking forward to doing better in the next one.

Should have also mentioned, try to avoid standing near anyone immediately after they announce that they are going to retire or only have "___ days left on the force"

Glad it went well!

I have done a variety of matches over the years. I've always tried to replicate the real equipment and tactics. Are you in law enforcement? If so I'd take you duty pistol and wear your work clothes. I've seen some taking classes do that. I've held the most respect for those when in a class on a hot day they are wearing the vest, etc.

No, I'm not an officer. I am an associate member of the Illinois Police Association and shoot in their matches. I am going to continue to shoot the combat portion with my 1911 and Glock 21. I am going to start shooting the bullseye portion with my normal bullseye gun though.

It's very affordable. 6 dollars each to shoot the combat and bullseye match and three dollars to reshoot either.

Having run PPC & Bullseye and pin matches since the early 90's, we always look at each shooters safety habits.

That is what keeps all the shooting matches fun.
