I was curious if anyone out there has a pair of the "Hellfly" glasses by Revision and how you like them for shooting?

Also does anyone happen to have the Photochromatic lenses that darken in sunlight? If you do do these darken by visible light or UV? I'm curious because I'd like a good pair of all around glasses indoor/outdoor shooting and driving. Since most ( i believe all) auto glass has UV coating then I would expect the glasses not to darken if they only respond to UV which would not be favorable.

I have used a different model than those, and I think they (both those, and the sawfly model) would make good shooting glasses.

I didn't like them for reasons that shouldn't matter much if you are just using them for shooting. The ones I had scratched waaaaaaayy easily, they were uncomfortable under a helmet, and they fogged up like no other.

For shooting glasses though, I think they would be ok. I would buy a pair if they were on sale for cheap, and the rest of my glasses got ran over by a truck or something.

Hope that non-review helps out.

I have been buying $10 fishing glasses, and they work fine. I guess I don't get spending $100+ on safety glasses.

I have started to put my glasses in socks, and a hardcase though so that they do not get damaged in my range bag.

I have a pair of Hellflys, with Midnight Mirror lenses. They're very comfortable and lightweight. They also wrap nicely around the eyes, so they give excellent coverage for both flying debris and UV protection. I can't say much about the photochromatic lenses as I don't have them.

I use the clear or yellow Original KDs biker shades. They are rated for impact and I wear them when I ride too. Dual purpose. That and they are $7.50 a pair retail. If I destroy them, I just order 4 more pair.

I prefer these.

I bought a couple in gray, clear and yellow a few years back and still have all but the gray ones (because I wore them daily as sunglasses ... and I eventually lose any pair of sunglasses I own).

All together a half dozen of them with shipping was about $17

You can't buy spare eyeballs at Walmart. Spending money on safety gear can make the difference.

My eyesight is the most precious sense I have. I shoot, fly airplanes, read, and use the computer, not to mention just seeing the world around me. If I couldn't do those activities, especially the first three, then life would not be worth living to me.

How much is your eyesight worth? Much more than cheap sunglasses from a big box store, I'd assume...

A fool and his money are soon parted. ANSI and OSHA approved fishing glasses are good enough to me.

I may not impress my range buddies with $150 glasses, but I protect my eyes.

mcdonl, do your fishing glasses comply with an older standard of ANSI Z87.1, as required by OSHA, or do they comply with a newer standard? Especially the ANSI Z87.1-2003 standard and the high velocity impact standard?

Not all safety glasses are created the same...

I'd spend hundreds of dollars on eyeware without a second thought. But you can get excellent eyeware for under $100 easily. Are your eyes worth that? Mine are. I've got no "range buddies to impress with $150 glasses", so it's not an ego thing for me.

Please, call me Leroy...

I have no idea, I just know I looked for the ANSI/OSHA standards and that is good enough for me.

Now would be a good time to tell you that I ride a motorcycle at times without a helmet, I have been known to run with scissors and I often sit too close to the TV. Call me a wildman...

Oh yeah, I hunt without $95,000 hearing protection on too.

Have I suggested spending extradoinery amounts on eye protection?

I'm just saying inspect what you buy/use a little more carefully and buy quality equipment. For example, I like the UVEX Genesis for low cost eyewear (about $10-15 a pair), and they meet the military standards, which are supposedly even more stringent than the ANSI standards.

I don't trust the Chinese to make extremely important protective gear.

Sorry Avenger.... you did not. The OP was talking about a brand of glasses that start at $100.

I checked for the standards I wanted my glasses to meet. They met those standards.

I do not know where they were made, but they were tested in the US.

The rest was my poor attempt at humor. My appologies.

As far as the hearing protection, I was read the riot act once for stopping on my way home to try a new gun, with no hearing protection. I was given a bunch of crap, and brought up hunting with no hearing protection. It seems as though inspector gadget has invaded the gun market and a lot of people go into the woods with special hearing protection/enhancements on. Not in my part of the woods they don't...

Sorry. Didnt mean to cause trouble, but I was being difficult.

It's cool.

But if I was hunting, I'd definitely invest a little money in the electronic hearing protection.

Well... I went out and bought a pair of the Hellfly black frame/Midnight Mirror lenes. Did I pay more than I had to compared to other glasses?
yes. Were the glasses I already had working? so far. Anyhow I got what I wanted and they fit well. A point for me that I didn't mention was wanting a good pair of driving shades as well. And they are working great for that as well. The bendable nose piece is a nice touch too. I've had other with that but i have a funny nose and one eye that is slightly higher than the other lol but I got them to fit well anyways. Thanks for the input everybody! and if you are driving around DFW and see a big redneck in a small car with eyes that look like a giant dirt dauber then wave! lol
