My wife and I both shoot SA 9mm 1911s in steel challenge. My wife's support (left) hand sustained some damage 10 years ago so she uses a golf glove on that hand to help with racking the slide. While the glove works fine racking the slide on our SS handguns and probably works well gripping a leather gold club grip, the glove doesn't give much traction on her 1911 grip.

I realize there are many grips out there to try; her current grip is a not-very-aggressive VZ style, but I'd also like to see her trip a thin glove with some areas of rubber bumps or similar as one might find in a mechanics glove. Has anyone out there found something similar? If so, brand?

She has good-size hands so I don't think finding a fit in almost any glove would be a problem. BTW, we're running pretty meek reloads, but there is some recoil there and you don't get any stronger as you get older.

Thanks,
Rick

i forget what it's called, but i wear the ones from hardware stores, they have red 'cloth' packs, and black 'rubber'/latexish fronts. IE; the part covering the back of your hand/wrist is cloth, the part covering the gripping part of your hand is rubberish.

I use golf or baseball gloves. I have both but forget which is which. I prefer the ones with open fingers.

I have always favored the Army issued Nomex flight gloves, they are snug and supple enough for both handguns and rifle use.

I use " Mechanics" brand gloves from Autozone. Leather Palm, mesh back ( breathable) and about $15 a pair. Some style have hard knuckles for working on cars.

I have a pair of Ironclad gloves. They have synthetic leather impregnated with silicone.

These things are sticky....when kept clean.

You could probably just buy any old pair of gloves and strategically place RTV on the palm and fingers for the same effect.

Edit/ Disclaimer: I never used these gloves to shoot.

try bicycle gloves.
the palm and ball of hand are padded, thickness varies by manufacturer.
They come in short and long finger styles.

I have a pair of Giro long fingers and the first 2 fingers & thumb have grippy tips, works great on wet smooth STI or brake levers so a slide should be no problem. Think I paid around $40. head to a REI or Performance Bike store and take a look. Most definitely try them on before buying. Seems all cycling apparel manufactures use different sizing methods.

I have nerve damage and numbness in my left hand. I use a weight lifting fingerless glove from Walmart.
Inexpensive and effective.

I like Geiers...

American made so I don't wonder as to tanning chemicals and such. Reliable sizing standards and wonderfully non-obtrusive seams.

Specifically, I like their elastic, non-palm-seam "Ropers".

"Find a retailer" on their site works well.
