Where do you H-town guys shoot? I have been to American Shooting Center off Westheimer and Top Gun in the galleria area. Is there any other/better places that I should check out? Are there any places that you can "join" and if so how much are they per year and where are they located?

Thx

PSC is a fantastic private range in Friendswood. It has a reasonable yearly membership and is open every day of the year so you can really get your money's worth. www.psc-range.com

They also have lots of different kinds of shooting matches and competitions out there, so there is always something fun to do.

put another vote in the PSC column. I don't live close enough to use a membership, but a friend does and I go there with him occasionally and its a very nice setup.

+1 to PSC, its where I shoot.

If its too far south-east for you try Bayou Rifles: www.bayourifles.org They have two ranges, one one in Addidicks near I-10 and Eldridge, the other south off 288. My father-in-law used to be a member there before his health deteriorated to the point he couldn't shoot any more. Been there a few times with him, its also a good setup.

Thanks all. It looks like bayou rifles may be the best as it is quite a bit closer than PSC. If you join one of the Bayou Rifles ranges can you shoot at the other?

I had previously thought about joining Bayou Rifles, the only problem I have with them is they want information on my current and previous employer. It's there bat and ball so they can make up what ever rules they want of course, but I have a difficult time understanding why they need that information. And not everyone wants a shooting club calling their office to see if they are ok to join.

And I'm not knocking you members, as I said, it's your game so play it however you want.

I've shot at many of the ranges, and PSC in Pearland is great, just too far for me to get too on a regular basis. American I think is one of the best, range officers can be a little snooty but I can shoot pistols and rifles from 5-600 yards, plus trap, skeet, 5 stand and sporting clays for a reasonable (not cheap mind you) price.

PSC is great. Huge, has everything. Could do without the looong ass bumpy drive down a crappy dirt road though.

PSC and Bayou

I've shot at both, PSC as a member and Bayou Rifles off 288 w/ a policeman buddy. I like them both, although the latter seems a tad better for me, a longer ride, but a nice drive. There's also an indoor range on FM 2351 outside Friendswood, Sportsman's Shooting Center. A very reasonable per-gun charge.

Been trying to get my father-in-lw to join the Pearland club. He lives in Pearland but shoots at some crappy outdoor "range" and is held to just shooting at 25 yrds. That and thier per-gun charges are rediculous. Up around $7/gun now I think. Told him about PSC and he kinda brished it off saying "I don't know where it is". They moved there a couple yrs ago and he doesn't get out much. Basically only leaves to go to the range. (he's got back problems). I'd gladly pay his membership, but getting him to the place to fill in the application and to take any orientation course would be nearly impossible. Heck, even Mapquesting directions is easy to get there from his house - Mapquest says 25 minutes/14- miles. He hates driving and is pretty stubborn so unless I moved there I don't see him getting a nice place to shoot. Well...I'm staying here, I got my club to shoot at.

PSC is 36 miles/41 minutes per mapquest,

Bayou Juliff Range is 24 miles/32 minutes,

and Bayou Addicks Range is 16 miles/19 minutes.

So it seems like a no-brainer to me.

I like American pretty well, especially when I go during the week and there are few people there. However going 1-2x/week at $15 a pop is not very economical for me. I have easily spent a years membership at Bayou or PSC in the past 1-2 months.

Thanks again.

Besides PSC, any of the others open before NOON?!

So many houston ranges are not open in the mornings. PSC 8am. Texas City 9am. So many are like 11am or 12n.

Top Gun is good for an indoor range, but $15 a pop is as much as a month of one of the private ranges, plus they won't let me shoot my magnums or +P. It is only 5 minutes from my house though.

American opens early, at least by 9 o'clock (earliest I have been there). It is usually only me and one or two others there at that time.

ASC shooting hours.

8 am on weekends
9 am weekdays.

It tends to be busy later in the morning, and fridays. Late afternoon is usually pretty dead.

Also, they rarely get gunning at the hour, best to show up at 8:10 ot 8:15 if you want to start gunning with the first hot range.

I shoot at ASC a lot. They offer a yearly membership, it's $225 for individual and $250 for family. Ask about it in the pro shop.

Is there a whole independent orientation you have to go through like at psc?

Thats pretty good. Their hours say simply "open til 10pm"... know what time the open in the morning?

Do they have or allow plates by chance?
