Got nothing to do on Saturday (wifes working) so I figured Id go out in the desert and shoot stuff.

Gonna take the SKS, AR-15 and a couple pistols. Anyone wanna join?

Was thinking of going out to the pit unless someone wants to go to a range.

By the way, hows that range north of town? Off of Oracle Blvd is it?

I usually go to the Tucson Range at 3 points.

You're thinking of Pima Pistol Club, up in Catalina, I think. Never been there, but heard it's not bad. I usually go to either Jensens' or Tucson Mountain Park range.

BTW, did you mean the Pit out by Vail, or the one up off Tangerine rd?

Vail is closer to me.

How is the Mountain Park range? Thats off of Ajo and the road to the Desert Museum right? Right turn at the McDonalds?

TMP is a little 100 yard 14 pos range, no water, pit toilets, costs $4 to shoot all day, only open Fri-Sun, kinda neat. The lines start at 25 yards, and they are posts with wire to clip targets to. The wife likes the place, and that's where the Mosin roars, as it's the closest outdoor range to Marana.
Yeah, it's on Kinney road, a couple of miles before Old Tucson, going the other way from how I get there - I come down Sandario....:D

If you're going to the pit out at Vail I can probably join you, though I'm pretty limited in terms of ammo. Got plenty of .22lr, and I've got the handloads from my FFL for the two rifles, but I don't want to shoot that until I get either scopes or Mojo sights. I'm almost out of .40S&W, but I would have enough to last for a little while anyway.

So, what kind of time frame? We are still talking about the Vail mining hole from last time, right?

Also, it may be a possibility that my wife might to come. She tried out a bunch of guns, mostly revolvers, this past Friday and really liked the .38 snubbie. I would like for her to try out a few autoloaders besides the Kel-Tec P32 and P3AT she already has tried. Also, a .357Mag is something I'd like her to try too. I can certainly pick up some ammo for whatever you might bring, or we can trade for some of my remaining .40 and some .38Spc and .22Mag leftover from Friday.

I'll talk to my wife and see what she thinks. It might not work out becuase of the baby (no really good place to get Katelyn out of the heat and away from the noise). But we'll see what happens.

Have fun, I have to work of course. :(

As a note, I went to the pit we went to last time, Tuesday, to test fire my shotgun real quick (5AM, it's nice and cool!) and there was a piece of bullet resistant glass out there from a heli or plane or something. Though it wasn't too resistant to slugs... :p

I'll have Don bring his Taurus 66 .357 Mag so she can shoot it.

I'll have the .45 Kimber and BHP with me as well as the 10MM.

Gonna be shooting the SKS and AR-15 most of the time though.

I would like to get out there around 9 at the latest so it wont be too darn hot.

Well, even at the relative coolness of 9AM there's still the whole issue of the noise that we don't want to subject Katelyn's ears to. Becuase of that, and the fact that our favorite neighbor is out of town (and we don't trust anyone else to babysit yet) I think it'll just be me this time. Next time, when a babysitter is available I'm pretty sure she'll come.

Where's the best place locally to get .45ACP, .223, and 7.62x39 for cheap? I'll try to pick up a box or two of each.

I have 900 rounds of 7.62 left.

As for .45 or 223, might wanna check Wal-Mart.

I plan on hitting Jensens and Diamondback Police Supply tomorrow during lunch for some ammo deals. WIll let you know what I come up with.

As a side note, I got 50 round boxes of .45 Magtech ammo for $8 when I was in San Antonio. Only have 1 box left.

Lenny, I don't think I'll be able to pick up any more ammo. My wife got robbed at Park Place Mall yesterday. A kid grabbed her purse off her shoulder and ran off. If it haden't been for the fact that she had the baby with her, she probably would have given chase. The cops found the purse, luckily with driver's license and credit cards still inside, but he got about $200 cash and our house keys and probably got a look at our address from the DL. So, last night I went ahead and bought the .38 revolver for my wife in case this guy or his buddies decide to see if the keys still work (they won't). Anyway, bottom line is, between the cash stolen and buying the gun, plus the locks I'm out almost $600. So, I'll just have to make do with whatever ammo I can scrounge from the house.

Dude, sorry to hear about the wife. Thank God she's ok and all the crackhead wanted was the loot in the purse.

Maybe CCW in a purse for a gal isnt a good idea after all.

I picked up another 200 rounds of .223 and 50 more .380 today. Diamondback had PMC .223 for $3.50 per 20 rounds.

Saturday at 0900 should be good for me. Gonna make up some type of wood backdrop targets to shoot at. Might even grab some orange clays from Wally World tomorrow to take out there.

Lenny, thanks.

Once we do get our CCW permits she'll definatly be keeping it on her person (maybe in the diaper bag, but probably not).

I'll try to put together a few 2x4 and plywood targets myself. See you Saturday.

Andrew
