Hey guys,

I'm supposed to head out tomorrow to go shooting and I had a question about the safety of myself and the well-being of my m48. I have my top hand guard in for repair and my question was if it was safe to shoot my mauser while missing the top hand guard? Would it be safe for me and would it damage my weapon in any way missing this part? Attached is the photo of my mauser without the hand guard

Just secure the shroud loops with something to keep them from rattling around and possibly scuffing or scratching something.

The forward wood portion of the forestock and the cover is there to prevent the soldiers from burning their hands if they suddenly needed to shift their grips up foreward to use the bayonet or butt end for somthing other than shooting. It serves no purpose as relates to shooting.

You may or may not notice a shift in the POI as the front is slightly lighter and may try to rise up a little more. Or it may be so slight that you don't notice a thing.

I was thinking this was a guy talking about a AR and a missing cam pin...

Handguards missing are fine.

Ok very cool guys! Thanks. I was just making sure and I wasn't sure if the top hand guard played any kind of structural role with recoil or anything such as that.

And yes, I will need the bolt to shoot! haha
