Shooting without Chokes

whoa...why isn't my original post showing up?

Well here it is again.

I have a Mossberg 500. It was the combo pack that came with the 18" & 28" barrels. I usually shoot clays with the 28". I was considering getting a Mossberg 28" barrel with AccuChoke so that I can use chokes.

I saw a used one for about $75. I don't have experience with chokes so I wanted to know if you could/should shoot without them screwed in.

Now I know. thanks.

I've known a few folks that shoot without a screw choke in place in a barrel thus threaded.

They call it "Shooting Threads".

I call them idiots.

Once the detritus gets into the threads from shooting, it starts corroding things from Minute One. That steel there has lots of surface area to mess up, and tolerances are tight. After getting the crud out, if they do, tubes will either be looser so they come loose on their own or much tighter.

This, like PGO shotguns, flares and fletchettes, is in The Land Of Shotguns a certified, triple chrome plated Bad Idea.....
