CRAP BURGLAR

By Ahmar Khan
ST. MARY’S TODAY

LEONARDTOWN — Mystery surrounds the beating of a dog that led to his death last week after the house where he lived with his owner was burglarized.

The story is eerie. ”He was a lab mix. One year and half. His name was Jake,” said the owner, Richard Paradis. The dog died on December 1 after he was allegedly brutally beaten up by a burglar who allegedly broke into the house of Paradis on South Snow Hill Manor Road in St. Mary’s City. According to charging documents, on November 12, St. Mary’s Sheriff officer Keith Moritz responded to the home of Paradis at South Snow Hill Manor Road for reported breaking and entering.

The suspect, a former student of St. Mary’s College is a member of a band named Byzantine that plays at local bars. Paradis phoned the police on 11/12/06 at 0127 hours and told police that he returned home from a bar and discovered his home burglarized. The police report said the victim located an unknown subject sleeping on his couch and dialed 911 to report the incident.

Upon arrival Moritz made contact with the victim outside of his residence. The victim advised an unknown subject broke his side door window to barge into the home. “I entered the residence with witness and found the suspect Stephen Carpenter Weber, 23, sleeping on the couch,” Moritz said. The suspect was covered in a blanket and Moritz said he could only see his head. The officer asked the suspect to show him his hands, but he allegedly refused. According to Moritz, the suspect said, “F... off.” The officer then pulled off the blanket of the suspect but he tucked his hands under his chest. The officer then removed the suspect to the floor.

”The suspect failed to comply to several lawful orders to place his hands behind his back,” Moritz said in his report. The police report said the suspect was naked from his waist down and that his pants could not be found at the Paradis home. Moritz said the suspect physically tried to pull his hands away, but the officer succeeded in placing the suspect under handcuffs with the help of a witness. Moritz alleged further investigations revealed the suspect broke the victim’s side glass door by unknown means. The suspect allegedly ransacked the kitchen and ate an unknown amount of food, valued at $20.
”The victim also squirted ketchup inside of the victim’s kitchen cabinets,” the police report said. Moritz said the victim advised him he has never seen the suspect before and nobody was supposed to be inside of his residence. Intriguingly, the suspect’s Byzantine band plays at the same bar on Route 5 that the victim frequents. Paradis said he was waiting for final test from the vet to ascertain what caused Jake’s death ”He was all crapped in his pants,” Paradis said, when he found Weber on his couch. Paradis said when he returned home at 2 am Sunday, he found his window doors broken, a phone books ripped into two, and the kitchen counter tops in bad shape.

”He took out a Burrito and had shoved it into my toaster,” Paradis said. ”He ate dog pepporoni treats and passed out on my couch, covered in crap,” he said. Police responded within two minutes of Paradis call. He said Jake suffered haemorhage him on the brain, injuries on his jaw and he noticed left eye swollen after the burglary. “He died December 1 at 4.50 am in my arms,” he said. ”He was a bundle of joy, brindle in color. He was wellknown in the neighborhood. I was known as Jake’s owner,” Paradis said.
He said the suspect used his sweat shirt to clean his crap. “He could have burnt it (home) down.” The 64-pound Jake was freaking out when Paradis arrived home. He was certain the dog resisted the intruder. Local vet Cathy Bennet is handover the autopsy report to Paradis Wednesday.
The burglary has alarmed Paradis neighbors. “Here’s the scary thing. This guy could have been broken into any home. He was out of control, he was a mess,” Pardis said.
The police report corroborated what Paradis had to say.

”The suspect was extremely intoxicated and appeared to be under the influence of an unknow narcotic,” Moritz claimed in his report. Weber allegedly told police he thought he was in Baltimore and had no clue why he was at Paradis’s home. Police estimated the total value for the damaged door is $100. Weber was allegedly charged with burglary first degree, burglary fourth degree, resisting arrest, theft less than $100 and malicious destruction of property less than $500. Paradis said he had already pressed animal cruelty charges against Weber, but feared the suspect’s lawyer may try to get him instead. A St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputy, who is investigatng the case, declined comments on the case.

Reading this, I didn't get the urge to shoot... I got the urge to take something like an asp baton and liquefy this :cuss: .

And to top it off, he might sue the homeowner cause the dog got a piece of him...

”He was a lab mix.
He was a bundle of joy, brindle in color

I bet it was a Pit mix, and they're calling him a Lab because he was the victim here. The media has already conditioned us all that Pit Bulls are inherently evil. :scrutiny:

Hope Weber gets some time for this.

No way that guy would've lived till the cops got there, if it was my house and dog. No way. I have no doubt I would've seen him reaching for a weapon.
End of story.

Biker

Nasty brute.

But... the firing squad?

I know you're expressing your distaste, and I agree with the emotion, but the penalty for killing a dog is not summary execution.

Venom, no matter how well deserved, doesn't serve the purpose of this place.

Thread off topic for this forum. Not gun related, except for those who wish to shoot him, and not L&P.

Closed before some members mention things that will get them into trouble.
