Well, shootout #2 at the local mall parking lot and once again I miss the whole thing.

That's it, no more hanging out by the computer, it's time to start driving around looking for trouble.

Looks like yet more young bad guys on young bad guys, based on teh one suspect they showed being driven away. One guy in the hospital with severe injuries, one drove/walked off.

They were headed towards Wild's store according to the news.

Apparently it's BOLO the wounded guy.

I hate malls so I'll probably never experience one of these shootouts - and that doesn't bother me one bit.

Geez, me thinks the great white north winter doldrums are getting to the locals again!
Hang tough, spring will be here soon!

No link at the time. It was here in Anchorage, at the Dimond Center parking lot apparently outside Best Buy. The store had nothing to do with it, it wasn't "out of Halo 2" inspired violence. :D

A couple weeks ago there was a similar shooting with the perps fleeing to a nearby Fred Meyer where they were arrrested inside. Two days later a stock boy found a kilo(+/- , heh ;) ) or so of coke (IIRC) hidden on a shelf.

As far as anyone can tell it was bad guy on bad guy violence. No bystanders hit, just their cars. Better call Maaco.

Anchorage police Tuesday evening took two men into custody after a shooting in the parking lot of the Dimond Center that critically injured one victim.

A second person also may have been injured but apparently fled the scene, and police were searching for him late Tuesday, said police spokesman Ron McGee.

The men in custody were being questioned, and no charges had been filed in the case, McGee said at about 6 p.m.

Police were asking anyone who might have information about the man who had been wounded by gunfire but had not remained at the mall to contact them, McGee said.

The shooting occurred a few minutes after 5 p.m. outside one of the north entrances to the mall in the parking lot along Dimond Boulevard, according to McGee. The entrance was the one closest to the Gap, he said.

What sparked the gunfire was unclear, McGee said. It also was unclear whether the man known to have been shot had been targeted by the shooter or was a bystander, he said.

"He has life-threatening injuries," McGee said.

After the shooting, numerous patrol cars converged quickly on the mall, and officers soon took two men into custody. The officers' presence and their investigation caused rush-hour traffic to become badly congested outside the mall.

However, apart from the disruption to vehicle traffic and the blocked-off entrance, the disturbance to mall routines was minimal, according to McGee.

"The mall is open," he said. "There's a small area in front of the entrance to the Gap that's been roped off, and there's a dozen or so cars inside the roped area. Police are looking around that area for shells and other evidence. People are going inside and outside the mall."

Officers were also questioning witnesses.

The Dimond Center was the scene of a shooting in one of its parking lots on Feb. 5. A man was wounded by gunfire on the east side of the mall facing the Old Seward Highway, and his girlfriend took him to a hospital.

Officers pursued three suspects east for about a mile until cornering them in the Fred Meyer outlet on Abbott Road. The three were arrested and charged with assault and other crimes.

McGee was unsure whether the two events were related.

"It's way too early," he said. "We don't know what this is about."

wonder how long it will take for the dimond center to post signs stating 'no firearms' at all entrances?

edit - it occured at the middle of the north end of the mall, best buy is on the east end.

edit #2 - i wonder if the ADN writer of this article has been bitten by a radioactive moose? :D

Dude, a bit of Mall geography.

Dimond Road is on the North side of the Mall, all the entrances that face Dimond are on the "North" side of the Mall. As does Best Buy's.

The first big entrance on the extension, the one that is by the Mad Hatter and the Michael's Jewelry is the "Gap" entrance, since it leads straight to Baby Gap. (how can you not know this?)

So yes, I was wrong to reference Best Buy, though the Marv Albert-looking local reporter did in his news report.

I'm gonna go talk to my stylist there about it, and one of my Marine buddies is armed security for the mall. If I'm upset for missing it, he's gotta almost be in tears. Probably just sitting in his office hugging his Handi-Rifle.

I don't see them posting, the events happened in the parking lot and from what I can tell, they are aware of the difference between good guys and bad.

pull the compass out of your pocket. i know you have one in there. dont ask how i know. i just know.

see the direction just to the right of 'North'? thats called 'east'. best buy would be in the north east section of the mall. therefore, with all due respect, and in my not so humble opinion, we are both right.

tell your buddy not to worry. as much ninja gear as they strap on for their day-to-day patrols of the mall, they probably couldnt have responded in time if it happened in front of the security kiosk.

:neener:

if you're going to be that way about it, i'll just stake the claim on me being more wronger than you are, so :neener:
