Shopper Paper Colt Woodsman find!

Saw an add for a Colt Woodsman in the weekly Swap & Shop paper.

Called the guy yesterday and found out it was a 4 1/2" Match Target with two mags!!!!!!!

A half hour later, he was six bills richer, and it was mine!

No box, no papers, but no government paperwork either!

Other then a red enamel sight paint job that cleaned right off, it is pristine with not a mark on it.
Still has all the bluing on the slide face, so it hasn't been shot hardly any.
And 4 1/2" Match Targets are so scarce I can't even find another one for sale on the internet! Plenty of 6", but no 4 1/2"'s.

Sometimes, it pays to read the Swap & Shop papers!

BTW: That one in the box is less then 80 numbers from my serial number.
They must have been stable-mates at the Pony factory in 1976!

NICE! I have the six inch barrelled version, Third Generation. They are great .22's from a different era.

This makes four Woodsman now, and all kinda just fell in my lap.

I bought a 1927 1st. Series Target at an auction for $175.

Then a 1936 1st. Series Sport from a prospectors estate for not much more then that.

Then a real nice 1965 Targetsman at a gun show a couple years ago for less then $300.

Now this one.
I gotta stop, but they just keep coming my way, and I can't say no!

Very nice! I had one many years ago, but foolishly sold it and haven't seen one since. Hope they keep coming your way.
 
Every once in a while, something like this will pop up in local Shopper classifieds. You just have to watch them closely and be ready to jump.
I bought a Woodsman Sport mint in the box last year for $425. First Woodsman I had seen for sale locally in years.
Congrats. Great find.
 
I still don't have *any* Woodsmans.

They are on my want list, but I've yet to find a good bargain on one.

1st. Series (1927) 6 3/8" Medium Barrel Target
1st. Series (1936) 4 1/2" Sport
(Both have Hi-Speed mainspring housings)

Bottom row:
3rd. Series (1965) 6" Targetsman
3rd. Series (1976) 4 1/2" Match Target

Of them all, the 1936 Sport is my favorite.
I especially like the 1st. Series grip angle better then the 2nd. or 3rd.
