I'm currently looking at a Colt Woodsman "Match Target" 2nd series as another target pistol. Couple of questions:

1. How hard is it to find magazines?
2. What is the market price of one in 99% fired with box and 1 magazine?
3. Durability of parts and availability of parts.
4. Shootability.

Thanks.

Colt Match Target

had a "match target" colt back in the late 50"s to early 60"s. have no idea what series. the bbl looked similar to an over/under with target rings and the rampant colt on the left side. it was a fine shooter. very accurate. only problem it had was the trigger went too light and soft after a few thousand rounds. i finaly sold it as i could no longer afford trigger jobs. now that i can, i wish i had it back for it was a fine little pistol. shot like a rifle. parts avail and current value, i have no idea. prolly has "collector" value now. hope this helps. apologize for not having more info.

1. 1st series mags are fairly cheap and available. Real 2nd series mags are expensive and hard to find . $65+ Some of the 3rd series kinda work in the 2nd series and are cheaper. eBay and Gunbroker are the only places I've seen them (2nd series).

2. Check Gunbroker and see what they've been going for. If it's really 99% and w/box it's worth a bunch. $800+

3. IIRC firing pins, springs and extractors were the things that broke. Whatever old/new or used parts that are out ther floating around. Colt hasn't made them for years. (Decades?) Ebay, Gunbroker, Numrich.

4. They shoot nice and feel nice. But I wouldn't want to have one for alot of shooting or competition. (Parts availability) A Ruger MKII Target Govt. is what I shoot in competition. http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=186&return=Y

Thanks for the replies.

I wanted the pistol to complement my S&W41. In my honest opinion the Colt Woodsman Match feels a lot better and points better. Price on the gun was $800.

Can anybody recommend a smith who works on Woodsman's?

I inherited one that literally sat in a sox drawer for 30 years and I haven't done anything with it since.

I'd prefer to have someone look at it who is knowledgable about them even if I had to send it out.

Of course someone locally in western Washington State would be perfect.

Kenneth: I hope you don't mind the semi-hijack of your thread. I thought you might be interested in the answer also so I didn't start a new one.
