I have some range pick up brass that is headstamped FC 223. The cases have a crimped primers and the red sealant on the old primers just like LC brass. My question is these cases are up to .120 shorter than the trim to length, are these ok to reload being this short.

Did you full length resize before taking a measurement? They will grow with sizing.

1.630" is to short, if that is what they measure after FL sizing. IMO. Militay wants 35 to 45lbs bullet pull. You neck tension would be less i would guess. The neck not sealing the chamber on firing could also be a problem. But then one has to wonder if the factory rounds brass was that short?? Does the brass seem to be once fired?

Are you sure you have the decimal point in the correct position. .120 is almost 1/8 of an inch.

Should have read .012, these are once fired cases as the crimp had to be removed from the primer hole.

The RCBS X die instructions tell you to trim .020" under maximum length, or to 1.740"

243, all references I have show a trim length of 1.750", maybe that's different for the x die.

Yes , the X die is different. Just pointing out that RCBS must feel that a trim length of 1.740" is not to short. Some factory fired brass can go shorter. http://www.rcbs.com/downloads/instructions/XDieProductInstructions.pdf

I'm working on a bunch of that right now. Found the same thing. Trimming to 1.750, some don't hit the blades and are down to1.745 or so. Some are over .762
