I found a 12 gauge bolt action shotgun with a 9” length of pull. What would the reasoning for this be? Youth shotgun? Overall preference? What is length of pull on your favorite shotgun?

My recollection of my Remington 870 Police Magnum is that it is thirteen inches.
I do occasionally wish it was just a tiny bit shorter for quicker/easier shouldering.

Small woman or young boy. My trap gun is a Beretta Urika with length of pull of 14 7/8 inches and my sporting clays gun is a Beretta 682 Golden E with a length of pull is 15 3/8 inches on a Morgan pad. You see I am almost 7 feet tall. When I shoot trap everyone complains I'm 3 feet closer to the trap house than all other shooters on the trap line. LOL

Is it a sporter or a tactical shotgun?
I recall some pump shotguns that had radically shorter stocks so SWAT guys could shoot them wearing heavy body armor.

If it’s a sporter with a normal shaped stock it’s probably a modification like Thomasss said, if it’s cut way down with a short barrel Jmr40 may have it pegged.

Stay safe.

I’d guess with a bolt action it would be for a smaller shooter. If you’re shooting stationary targets it’s not so bad, but wingshooting I find a little short makes recoil and pointing trickier.

The barrel is cut down to 19” and the stock looks like it was shortened in the back. Looks pretty much like the whippet in the Bonnie and Clyde pics jmr40 shared.

Sounds like someone cut it down in the past.

Most of the old bolt action 12 gauge (and 20 gauge) were setup with a 13"-14" length of pull and all had 28" to 32" long barrels. The most common barrel length was 28: while the 30" and 32" barrels were marketed as goose guns.

I think it would be odd to do this to a bolt action shotgun. But it was a thing at one time. Basically, like the Shockwave type of guns marketed today. They could be carried with a rigged up single point sling with the muzzle pointed down and completely concealed under a longer trench coat popular in the 20's and 30's.

Might want to check to make sure it is legal. The barrel has to be 18", but overall length can't be under 26". Sounds like this might be close to illegal

There ARE people who are called "little people". They don't like the old monikers (dwarf, midget) but someone may have wanted a gun to fit themself.
