Short sword choice

The Banshee would also appear to be a short northern Chines Dao blade with an "innovative" grip. The reviews indicate it's edge needs to be redone so that it chops/cuts more than crushes, but that isn't a difficult task.
It's been my experience with the Banshee that it chops/cuts way satisfactorily. Crush isn't even a word that would have occurred to me.

Just my opinion of it - and it's seen a lot of use.

Update:

I just took another look at the Kult of Athena site.

These things are going for $123.!!!!!

Dammitall... I may have to buy another one.

Or two.

I tell you folks, for that price, it's a steal

Or steel.... or something mildly punny like that.

Honestly, if you want a great price (not a cheap sword), I don't think you could do better than the Banshee.

Your choice. You snooze, you lose.

Hey, Meef, here's a link you may enjoy.

Anywayz, I've liked all the swords I've gotten from Himalayan Imports, though you'd probably have to wait for a deal of the day blem to squeeze by under $150.

Main thing I like is that the things are stiff. Too many reproductions are whippy and floppy for the sake of "durability," since that lets them get away with shoddier steel and workmanship, and it allows "tests" that are pure showmanship, like bending the sword in a vise (seriously, when will a blade flex like that in combat or something? Never, that's when). In comparison, one sword I have from HI is a hair under 0.20" thick, yet is as stiff as a board. Historical examples were much closer to that kind of temper, than the floppy stuff you find today.

I've also heard really good things about Generation II (I think they changed their name?). Good quality-to-price ratio, and very rigid blades from what I've heard, though I have no personal experience with them.

Also:

(that one isn't the thin one, it's a little over 0.45" thick at the base, it's a monster)

"Chitlangi Bowie", right?

HI does have several swords I really like, but it's usually easier to find one of these Hanweis from Kult of Athena for less.

Here's my recently acquired Swamp rat Waki and my HI Crow: you can usually find the Crow for about what the OP wants to spend, but the Waki is around 3x as much.
