My Mossberg 500 came with a pistol grip, and now that I'm actually using it I purchased a full buttstock, a Choate Mark 5.

I have an issue though with how its fit to my hand. With my hand on the grip of the stock, my index finger is only close enough to touch the back of the trigger guard, not far enough to pull the trigger (or release the safety with my thumb for that matter). In order to get my thumb or index finger to the right position, I have to bring my hand off the grip portion and closer to the receiver – which doesn't make for a very stable grip.

Has anybody else had this same issue and if so, did you find a stock that worked for you?

The current stock I have is this one:

While different manufacturers address the need for shorter LOP stocks on 'youth' type guns, very few ever seem to take into consideration the need for a shorter 'reach' for the trigger finger as well. I don't know of anyone making stocks with a shorter pistol grip radius for Mossbergs, I hope you can find one that works for you.

You mean the wrist of the stock is too large in diameter?

Ramline stocks are the narrowest in the wrist that I know of but it's not by a whole heck of a lot. A Ramline stock is sort of like a classic side by side shotgun. Your best bet is to just put the pad of your trigger finger on the trigger and then grip the wrist wherever your hand falls. Stocks are mostly sort of standardized for the average guy as Lee said, so you just won't find much diff.

If you have a local gunshop in your town, ask if you can try a grip on a Ramline stock and see how it feels to you. It might be what you need.
