Saturday night I got a last minute phone call from a few friends inviting me to the range Sunday morning to shoot a Serbu. My first thought was I have no real desire to shoot a 50 BMG as it would probably hurt my wimpy frame. I agreed to do it since I needed to resight my M1A and 10/22 out at the 100 yard range.

My initial impression of the Serbu was that it was a giant tube with a barrel, bolt and and cushion on the stock. It was heavy and looked kinda funny. :uhoh:

Well a few of the guys fired away DAMN THIS THING IS LOUD!!!!!! I shivered thinking how hard is this thing going to be on my shoulder. Well my time came up and I fired away. Recoil.....................what was I thinking. It was a baby. The only thing I didnt like was all that smoke. Everyone loved it! I can now honestly say that I am a fan of the 50BMG.

next time remove the muzzle brake and try it again.. it will feel worse than it sounds..

cmon I dare ya :neener: :D

Was it the BFG-50?

Hey 45R, if we ever meet again, you can definitely try my UltraMag 50 if you'd like. Think Serbu but a lot more refined.

And I used to shoot a 25# 50 bmg with no muzzle brake. Could only do 3 shots per shooting time. Always left me with a big black and blue mark on my shoulder. But on the good side, every thing else seems like a 22 afterwards. ;) ;)

50 Freak, how is the recoil and accuracy on the Ultramag 50? It seems like a good cheap way to get in the sport of 50 cal shooting. I'm interested.

Recoil on the UltraMag is a little more harsher than the BFG (Used to have that too, until I sold it to finance the UltraMag). But what do you expect. The UltraMag with stock, scope, bipod, and mag unloaded is pushing 16 pounds. But overall recoil is very managable.

I can't speak for accuracy as I've only shot at 100 and the 50bmg doesn't even stabilize till about 200+ but from what I can see it is comperable to the BFG. And that was pretty accurate in itself.

Unfortunately I've never had the chance to fire a .50BMG. That's a good thing though, because I want one already...I can only imagine the "need" I would have after shooting one.
