I met up with SIGftw ( a great guy to shoot with and first time I had met him)at our local range and got to shoot his Coonan in .357 magnum for the first time. It's a hoot to shoot and honestly I expected that long cartridge to have feeding problems, but it ran like a top with nary a bobble. The 1911 design controlled recoil very well, although you certainly know it's hot it's never uncontrollable, it also has a very decent trigger.

So that's one more pistol to put on the "need" list.

I handled one at Xmas time. Didn't get to shoot it. Fit and finish were great and it was comfortable in the hand. If reliable, it'd make a great trail gun.

Yes Coonan still pumps them out! Great ballistics too, someone was getting right around 1800 fps from a Coonan using Buffalo Bore 125gr JHP .357 Magnum.

Well the mags cost less than half my Sig X6 mags, so I'm not so bothered about that.

The grip is a little longer, but no wider, so that's ok.

I guess old women and small children might worry about the muzzle blast, but it sure didn't seem that bad to me.

It's not on my need list, but it is on my want list. There is one sitting at the local farm and ranch store about 15 minutes from my house, and I go slobber over it a couple times a month.

Edit to add: Actually, no guns are on my need list anymore. I have every gun I could possibly need. Want, on the other hand.....

I saw someone run one in IDPA, and several berms away I HEARD it too. ;)

Really neat piece. Didn't see any jams.

browningguy,

Thanks for letting me shoot your Sig X6, it is one fine pistol!! I'm glad the you liked the Coonan 357, it's a fun gun to shoot and hunt with.

Been shooting a md B for better than 20yrs. It is very controllable, accurate and reliable. If you are concerned about the blast and noise try a 3 1/2 K frame. It is a magnum after all. My go to gun for long road trips.

Cheers,

ts

I wanted one until Coonan aligned with gun control group Evolve.

No way can I support this.

Woah. I wanted one too, until I read that post. I never even heard of Evolve until I looked it up as a result of G29SF post. :-(

A friend of mine has one, and he's found it to be a little picky about ammo. Whatever he was using the day I shot it worked flawlessly. It was a fun gun, and a neat concept, but it doesn't really have a place in my collection. Glad I got to shoot it, though, and glad you got to shoot that one.

Does anyone know where they are currently manufactured? I have an old article someplace that states they are (were) being manufactured in Blaine or Coon Rapids, Minnesota or something like that, i could be wrong... Sorry i dont mean to hijack the thread.

Any time someone makes a poor decision regarding a potentially lethal situation, be that driving a car, drinking, or using firearms, innocent people often pay the price. Gun owners have choices. They have the power to make decisions about how guns are stored, how they are used, who they would sell a gun to, and granting accessibility to guns by those unqualified, or mentally unstable. These individual powers are not dictated by rights, but instead make it incumbent on the individual to make responsible choices. People without the guns don’t have the luxury of making these choices....

What nonsense.

I lifted the above quote off of the "Evolve" re-launch website. It is condescending in the extreme for these people to assume they are needed in order to open a conversation to check the rabid folks like me that clearly want to "celebrate the freedom to store guns improperly, sell them to mentally unstable people, and infringe on the unarmed populace with our bad choices." Oh, and gun ownership is properly compared to alcohol abuse. Off messaging for a "gun rights" group IMO.

So much for a gun-friendly re-launch, Mrs. Bond. Perhaps if you were ACTUALLY part of our community, you would learn we are in fact on the responsible, level headed side of this conversation. The civility you claim to be pursuing is not to be found on the anti side of this equation, but I suspect that is not a tremendous concern for you.

I am trying really hard to see how Dan Coonan could get played by these people. He has resurrected a great product, and lifted a proud company out of bankruptcy. I for one will give him an opportunity to distance himself from these people. I hope he does, and I am going to let this marinate a bit to give him a little slack. Surely he simply naively bought the notion that they are promoting safe, responsible gun ownership and storage. Why they are needed when that is a core tenant of the NRA's mission statement is beyond me. Still, Say that's what you thought, Dan. Admit you got played, and make it right. I want to buy your product, but I cannot until you fix this.

I have slobbered over your guns for nearly 30 years. Come on, Dan. Wake up and smell the reality that these people are planning a victory dance on your potentially pending re-bankruptcy. I missed my chance to own one of these after the first Coonan Arms failure. Let's not repeat, please.
