And loved the little thing. Got to my shooting club's IPSC range today in the morning, and found there one guy I know that has one of these. I had taken my usual 92FS and we had a good chat about pistols, reloads, etc, and exchanged pistols.

I normally shoot Magtech 124gr. I consider it a "sweet" ammo, compared with the Fiocchi I'm issued at work, which is noticeably hotter. I shot the Walther with the Magtech too, and I have to say, I was quite impressed with this little pistol. It is, definitely, snappier than my 92. It's shorter and lighter so it had to be that way, but I expected it to be much more than it actually is. Double taps were easy to achieve and fast enough at a distance of 15ft more or less. "Long shots" to the pippers or far targets, like 45 ft away, hit the metal or the "alpha" zone with no problem. This thing is deadly accurate, even with that small barrel.

The trigger is just outstanding. Breaks clean and the reset is fantastic. I tend to frown with striker fired pistols because I prefer hammer fired ones, but this Walther has a fantastic trigger, no doubt about it.

The pistol was seven years old and her owner said he had put close to 20000 rounds through it. The trigger wasn't heavy either in DA or SA. He said it had improved and lightened with use. Another good feature is the second strike capability, although I don't think that having a dud round, I would pull the slide so as to cock the striker. More likely I'd eject the dud round and chamber a fresh one.

He also liked my 92FS. He had never shot one and what he heard about these Berettas wasn't very good. I told him they're fine pistols and he actually liked it when he shot it. Got all his shots where he wanted and found it very pleasant to shoot.

Today's morning has been a fun morning :D

I really like the P99c as well. Mine was a QA model, (Quick Action), and I could shoot it as well as my much loved HK P2000sk. That is high praise. A much overlooked, high quality pistol.

I carried a P99c A/S model for 3 years, before I started carrying a Beretta 92FS over 2 years ago.

I liked the P99c MUST better than the Glock 26 I had carried before that. Nice little subcompact... I had gotten my slide hard chromed, actually...

I saw one of these for the first time in a gun store in Wenatchee, WA yesterday: cool gun and I was surprised to see it looked a hair smaller than my beloved PPS (though not thinner).

Only thing I don't like, the weird -for me- mag release. I am used to the traditional grip button release, and this lever in the trigger guard...

Yep - one of the best and most overlooked pistols on the market. The trigger is pure bliss (I own a full-size P99AS). Better than a few 1911s I've shot.

There is nothing weird about the mag release. Walther has always been a company that is not afraid to innovate and bring better ideas to market. The mag release may not be what you are used to, but it is better in many ways.

Think about it - it's 100% ambidextrous, will never accidentally depress in a holster (a HUGE benefit), can easily be actuated (either with the forefinger or thumb) by almost any size/shape hand (without having to shift one's grip). And by the simple virtue of being longer, (at least on the compact and 2nd-gen fullsize P99s) is better than the similar releases seen on H&K's pistols.

I'm a huge fan of 1911-style guns (carried a 1911 as a tanker for 6 years), but I lovelovelove my Walther P99AS. All the virtues listed above, and it feels like it was made just for my hand.
