After thinking about it for a while I finally went and shot at a match. Had a great time and shot a lot better than I imagined I would for the first time out. No minus 5's on the day and my times weren't too bad either. I felt pretty good leaving. Felt even better knowing the crowd there shot mostly with Wilsons or Kimbers and I only brought my lowly bone stock Springfield 1911-A1 (complete with GI style sights)... I'll surely be going again. Might even try IPSC like my friends have been wanting me to try with them. I might be hooked!

I tried it a couple months ago and really love it. At first I thought I would come out and just watch a match then give it a shot. Then....aww, to heck with it, just jumped in head first. I love it.

It quickly helped me discover the skills I lack and what I need to work on. I really enjoy it and while I am certainly not that great, I enjoy it no matter what.

Good for you IDPA is a lot of fun! Where did you shoot?

Shooting IDPA and USPSA at the same time can be confusing to a new gun game competitor. It might be better if you stick with one or the other until you get a good hold of what's expected.

Good luck!

I shot the classifier at the Hartford Gun Club. Incredible grounds. The way I look at it, i'm just having fun right now. If I get serious I'll pick one. I'm just happy to know that I can react under pressure. It was a blast and I can't wait for the next shoot. Next time the Springfield is staying home and my Al Zitta built .40 is coming out to play...

I've never shot at Hartford but I think it is the same group of good guys from Springfield. What .40 did Mr. Zitta (who can really shoot!) build for you?

I shot in an IDPA style match for the first time as well yesterday.

The course of fire they had set up was hard - one of them had two popup "shoot" targets that about 1.2 seconds later were covered by "no shoot" targets at a range of about 10 yards. No one in my group zeroed both. I was able to get shots off on both, got a -1 on one, but missed the other. Another one was a rotating silhouette that was only visible for about a second at 10 yards or so. One guy hit it with a .45 right after it turned, and sliced the whole bottom off! Lastly, there was a spinning weighted wheel with 5 targets on it, some people had real trouble with that one.

My favorite mini-stage was 3 yards, 7 targets. Double-tap each as fast as you can. My time was just over 4 seconds.

BAMBAM BAMBAM BAMBAM BAMBAM BAMBAM BAMBAM BAMBAM!

:D

Definitely going to do it again.
