Shot IDPA Sunday

Well, after shooting Cowboy for the better part of the last ten years, I decided to change directions and went to my second IDPA match. The first one was about 8 years ago. Anyway, it was a real great time and I learned quite a bit. I also learned about what I need to work on for my next shoot. I think I have found a little niche for a while. The people at the shoot (Oak Park Sportsman's Club in Plainfield) were really nice and helpful, and were very patient with my questions.

All in all, a very enjoyable morning.

Definitely going back, and definitely joining IDPA in the very near future.

If you are thinking of trying it, I for one can recommend it highly.

I'm glad you had a good time. I've been shooting IDPA for many years and the fun hasn't stopped yet. What gun did you use and how did you do? Be safe and enjoy.

I shot an XD40 Service. I was Unclassified in ESP and managed to get to third place in that configuration. I had a great time and will be back for their next match next month. The postal matches intrigue me.

I had a great time and what made it better was I shot 15.10 seconds better than my brother, who shot with me. After all the smack talk, it was nice to see the score!

If you practice and shoot matches regularly, you can take pride in the fact that you will "stink" less as you continue to improve.

Any person of any age, provided they are able to safely handle a gun, can make noticeable improvement. I've seen people over 70 shooting IDPA, and some of them do surprisingly well for their age. I have no doubt they would have a good chance of successfully defending themselves in an actual shooting situation.

The nice thing about IDPA (or IPSC or NRA or ATA or SASS or NSSA) is that the shooting sports run open competition. Golf with Tiger Woods? Not unless you are putting up big bucks and getting into a pro-am where you will get to hob-nob with the big names for a little while. Shooting with Rob Leatham? You bet. I always say I have been beaten by the best in the world.
