Using my new Savage Mark II BTV with Bushnell 3-9Xsomething (came with it, dying to replace it) I shot my best group ever today! I've been into shooting groups for a while now, but I've always shot mainly at 25 yards.

The Savage was doing pretty well at 25 in spite of the parallax irritating me to no end, so I decided to move out to 50 and see what I could do. The first of two I shot was about an inch, not bad. I took extra time setting the bags up just right, slowed my breathing down, and fired off a .320 CtoC!! That's a 5-shot group by the way.

I'm pretty impressed with myself over this. There was a slight breeze so I'll give myself credit for watching the leaves and being patient.

I also learned a thing or two today:

Taking the time to set the bags up precisely helps a lot!

My rifle likes to be shot free recoil, thumb and trigger finger all the way.

My rifle also likes Federal Gold Medal Target, kinda pricey but could be worse.

My picnic table come shooting bench is getting too old to be sturdy anymore.

My groups closed up quite a bit once I realized that the table was moving vertically with any change in weight. Guess I"ll have to build a dedicated bench now..

There's just something fun in shooting from a picnic table. We need pictures...visual learners ya know.

:)

At least some rifle porn!

The ground has lots of little holes and dips in it, serious back injury could result from shooting prone. Also, being really skinny, shooting prone on a hard surface tends to give me chest (muscle, not cardiac) pain when I stand back up.

All the pics I have right now are of the rifle and the target. If you guys are really interested in seeing my ugly mug slumped over a bench, I might be enticed to take some tomorrow.

I've got a remote for my camera, BTW. You guys know who I'm talking to..:neener:

Here's the rifle, the picture's in another thread but I"ll post it again anyway:

Top left is the topic of the day, bottom left is my first attempt at 50 yards for the day, and the top right is one of the best at 25 yards.

And a close up of the goods:

Pay no mind that my targets look like they've been chewed by a small animal of some sort. It's lead splatter from the bullet trap I use.

Look at the wood grain! That's not a rifle; that's a work of art! And you can shoot it to boot!

Halfded, very nice group!

I was just over at rimfirecentral.com looking at the small group competition; I've got some work to do! I saw a .089 and a .138!! Mind you those were the aftermath of Anschutz rifles, but wow!

Excellent job and a nice rifle! A buddy of mine bought one of those and used it to kill his first fly at 50 yards. A fly disappearing into splatter sure put a smile on his face!

Good times. I also shot a personal best this weekend. I shot NRA High Power Service rifle and I shot my first perfect 200 yard string this weekend. 20 Shots, 20 10's and 5 x's.
