Bought a auction lot of old ammo. In the lot were two rimfire shot shells(?). Both are copper case with rim fire style rim. Large is 0.620 with a roll crimp over wad. 1.150" long. Rim is 0.700 with dia above rim of 0.630. Smaller is fire and crushed. Estimated length 0.900. rim dia 0.640 and 0.570 above rim.

Diameters would relate to 20 gauge and 28 gauge. Can only find reference to a 20 gauge rim fire (re-loadable) Merrimack Arms Ballard rifle (shotgun).

Any help with more information would be appreciated.

No idea what you have there, but those are really cool! I love obscure stuff like this, please let us know what you find out if you get the info elsewhere.

I belive those are 'Starter' shells for an old engine of a type that had a port where these were inserted and fired to turn the engine for starting. My SWAG
