Shot Sizes for Clays

Food for thought - Many Sporting Clays courses are set up easy for the occasional shooter. Many shots will be inside 15 yards with the bottom or top (easy break) of the bird exposed. I have had great luck shooting #9 skeet loads at these easy sporting clays targets. For a typical weekender course I will shoot approximately 50 #9s for the close in easy to break targets, 30 #8s for edge-on and longer (15 to 25 yards) targets and 20 #7.5 Trap loads for the longer (20 yards plus) targets. My favorite thing about Sporting Clays is analyzing the target presentations and figuring how and with what ammo with which to address each station. YMMV.

Will depend on where you shoot. Most of the clubs where I just moved away from also throw registered NSCA tournaments so they have an easy course or two and a hard tournament level course. So it all comes down to which ones you want to shoot. I will ALWAYS opt for the hard challenging stuff.
