Only put 25 rounds thru it, some DA and some SA. Shoots straight but a bit high. Has the capacity for good groups if one were a good shoot; I'm not. so bear that in mind when you look at the picture below. Gonna give it a shot as a CCW as I like the simplicity of a rev.

Experiment with some other loads, especially some going faster with lighter bullets, and see if it doesn't group lower. Also be aware that the sights were probably regulated to print at point-of-aim at 20 or 25 yards with the old standard 158-grain LRN "police load."

O.F. and Obi: will do...its just that I have a ton of the 158swc as thats what I have always loaded for my paper shooters. I might have some lighter stuff out in the shed somewhere. If not, at the next show I'll see if I can find a box of factory stuff, that way I won't have to fool with my loader. What does Walmart carry?

On the target above, I wrote "bench rest", which for me was "forearm rest"; or as we say down south "jis propped it up a tad".

Or try a little stiffer load of WW231 behind the wadcutter you're using. My LEE book shows 4.2gr as a start load and 4.5 as max. 4.3-4.4gr should bring the group down a bit and still be well under +p territory.

That is a nice looking Chief's Special you have there and pretty good shooting for you first time out with it.

Sport45, thanks for info, will up the load a bit. I load light and thats what I had on hand. Works well in my Mod 15 and 10's. Apprec compliment on the gun. Pic makes it look like it has scratches but its marks from wiping it down with an oily rag.

Ul, put it away and forget about it. If a feller has a nice J-frame and carries it for a while it is hard to put on a full sized gun again......

Then that feller buys an Airweight J-frame and looks at his steel J-frames like they are heavy....

Slippery slope you are standing on the edge of.

You picked up a very nice looking gun. I REALLY like the J-frames I have.

i happen to think that wadcutter is just fine

and might agree tweaking the powder charge a bit is possible, or powder type even.

there's some snappy clean powders now that work well in snubbies.

i'm envious, and i don't even LIKE snubbies. .. but it is a blued S&W.. can't fault your good taste.

Hsmith: Naw, I'm not too worried about the slippery slope. :uhoh: Actually, I seem to do things back a$$ward, having had a couple of LW Smiths previously, then went heavy into 1911's, now getting interested again in wheelies. Other than a stainless Mod 64, and a Colt Defender, mine are all blued. Have finally figured out that I do not want to carry a heavy gun, and that rules out all my 1911's, so I'm back to looking at wheelies...but its gotta be something that I can "comfortably" shoot, and that pretty much leaves out the LW's. I know some of you can shoot them without any discomfort, but I can't. Been retired too long and got tender hands. Its hell laying around doing nothing but playing with guns and such. I am playing around with a Guardian 380, but that sucker hurts my hand, so I'm gonna try the Guardian 32 to see if thats much better. Yeah, I know, they are wee little mini's without much power but they sure are easy to carry...:D

Sunray's advice about a grip change is a very good point. Another consideration is a Tyler's grip adapter.

Those two options can change the whole feel of the gun, and the way you shoot it.

Have fun.
